DETROIT (Feb. 24) -- Detroit captain Steve Yzerman was scheduled to skate before the Red Wings' game against Los Angeles on Monday, clearing the way for his return to the ice.
Yzerman has not played this season following offseason surgery on his right knee.
"He's definitely going to participate in pregame warmups,'' coach Dave Lewis said after the team's morning skate. "And we'll definitely decide after that if he's going to play.''
The 37-year-old center hasn't been activated yet, but that can be done right before the game. The prognosis for Yzerman, who had an osteotomy -- a realignment procedure -- on his right knee on Aug. 2, was a six-month recovery period.
He has spent his entire career with the Red Wings and already is the longest-serving captain in NHL history.
Yzerman is ninth on the NHL career list with 658 goals, and in seventh place with 1,662 points. He also led the Red Wings to three Stanley Cup titles.

I read that, too. I hope all he does is skate around during warm-ups. He'll be a liability on ice right now, so I think it's much more advantageous for the Wings to have him dress up, skate around and sit and watch the game. It'll be a huge morale boost for the team to see him on the bench.
Chenks, Calgary has been a money go-against in game2 of a road B2B combo the last 3 seasons. They are 1-6 this yr, 1-9-2 last yr, 2-7-1 the yr before. THAT'S 4-22-2 in 3 yrs!!!!!! SJ has won the last 3 vs Calg. Calg playing 9th road game in L10, last game of a 5 game roadie. Also 8th game in 13days, 11th in 19days. SJ NEEDS this game before they head out on the road again. A few more reasons but I wanna get it posted before my pc shuts down on me again
