This is the first weekend of football posting for me on this board. The amount of interaction here is certainly impressive. Each week I'll be posting my college and pro picks (at least 1 per week) with units (ranging from 1 to 5).

Season Stats:

College Football: 0 - 0 .000 0 units

Game: Arizona State at Northwestern
Time: Saturday, 11:00 a.m. CDT
Pick: Arizona State +2-1/2 (4 units)

Coming off a 41-9 victory over UTEP in last week's season opener, Arizona State travels to Evanston, IL to take on the Northwestern Wildcats (0-1).
Saturday's game at NU's Ryan Field will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
This weekend, ASU looks to get its 6th win in its last 8 tries against teams from the Big Ten Conference. Northwestern opened the 2004 season with a 48-45 double-overtime loss at TCU last Thursday night.
Northwestern's kicker, Brett Basanez only made 1-of-6 FG's against TCU. Their defense gave up a lot of yards and now 2 of their better players are out.
ASU is so much deeper in TE than they have evern been before. Sun Devil kicker Jesse Ainsworth put 4 of his 8 kickoffs in the endzone for touchbacks.
We all know that Arizona State has struggled horribly on the road and has lost to much lesser teams on the road lately. However, you can attribute road losses to a team without fire. Passionate defensive play is what ignites a fire in a team and I think that ASU has that now. If the Sun Devils play with the same inspiration on defense this weekend as they did last, then look for them to end their road woes and move on. I think Arizona State is going to do just that.

Hopefully the 107 people who read the previous post were able to cash in on the Sun Devils today!

The ASU defense brought the fire and intensity once again this week. The Devils held Northwestern to just 7 points through the first 2-1/2 quarters and then, after NU closed the gap to 24-21, the offense came through with a field goal.

The critical play of the game was a big hit on a Wildcat receiver late in the fourth quarter with NU driving for the go-ahead score (although they would not have covered). A late ASU field goal accounted for the final scoring in a 30-17 win.

MONKEY wins his debut college football pick
