The number of children living in a grandparent's home has increased significantly over the past decade, according to 2010 data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The report showed that 4.9 million children under the age of 18 (7 percent) live in grandparent-headed households -- an increase from 4.5 million 10 years ago.

And everyone wonders why the world is going to shit. No accountability. Makes me sick.

My girl plays sports with a girl that lives with her grandparents. They were taken away from their parents due to drug problems. Parents divorced.

Total disaster and another single mom druggy in the making.

Sad situation.

So based on these rounded numbers, this is roughly a 9% increase in total children under the age of 18 living with their grandparents.

--but--

The 2010 Census reported 308.7 million people in the United States, a 9.7 percent increase from the Census 2000 population of 281.4 million.

--so--

really no change

damn statistics are a bitch

I see this demographic daily since I treat a lot of kids on Medicaid.

The question I rarely see is, what the hell is going to happen when this generation raised by their grandparents has kids at 15? Who is going to raise them? No more grandparents around. Scary situation.

unless of course the ever increasing illegal immigrant population over the last 10 years(extremely lowball estimate at 5 million..most estimates are higher) made it extremely difficult to factor into the equation.......

So which used those numbers and which side didn't?

Or is it just the one that makes this negative story cause the most anger?

just thinking that there was a massive p.r. campign to let illegal immigrants know that the census was benign and illegal immigrant friendly...that it was important to their interests to be counted so that they can be represented...

as far as the grandparent thing,i`m just not sure that there was a similar effort or that it carried the same importance......

the idea of the census was TO COUNT EVERYBODY....people were physically sent to non-responders homes to count them....

not so with a poll on grandparenting...
