~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello My name is Mary Jo Kopechne. I would have been 65 years of age this year. Read about me and my killer below.
When Sen. Ted Kennedy was merely just another Democrat bloating on Capitol Hill on behalf of liberal causes, it was perhaps excusable to ignore his deplorable past. But now that he's become Sen. John Kerry's leading campaign attack dog, positioning himself as Washington's leading arbiter of truth and integrity, the days for such indulgence are now over.
It's time for the GOP to stand up and remind America why Sen. Kerry's chief spokesman had to abandon his own presidential bid in
1980 - time to say the words Mary Jo Kopechne out loud. As is often the case, Republicans have deluded themselves into thinking that most Americans already know the story of how this "Conscience of the Democratic Party" left Miss Kopechne behind to die in the waters underneath the Edgartown Bridge in July 1969, after a night of drinking and partying with the young blonde campaign worker. But most Americans under 40 have never heard that story, or details of how Kennedy swam to safety, then tried to get his cousin Joe Garghan to say he was behind the wheel.
Those young voters don't know how Miss Kopechne, trapped inside Kennedy's Oldsmobile, gasped for air until she finally died, while the Democrats' leading Iraq war critic rushed back to his compound to formulate the best alibi he could think of. Neither does Generation X know how Kennedy was thrown out of Harvard on his ear 15 years earlier -- for paying a fellow student to take his Spanish final. Or why the US Army denied him a commission because he cheated on tests. As they listen to the Democrats' Liberal Lion" accuse President Bush of "telling lie after lie after lie" to get America to go to war in Iraq, young voters don't know about that notorious 1991 Easter weekend in Palm Beach, when Uncle Teddy rounded up his nephews for a night on the town, an evening that ended with one of them credibly accused of rape.
It's time for Republicans to state unabashedly that they will no longer "go along with the gag" when it comes to Uncle Ted's rants about deception and moral turpitude inside the Bush White House. And if the Republicans don't, let's do it ourselves by passing this forgotten disgrace around the Internet to wake up memories of what a fraud and fake Teddy really is. The Democratic Party, not to mention Sen. John Kerry, should be ashamed to have the national disgrace from Massachusetts as their spokesman. And the GOP needs to say so out loud. I remember all of this and I'm sure most of you do too.
U. S. Senator Jeremiah Denton on John Kerry
U. S. Senator Jeremiah Denton on John Kerry
It's important to know who Jeremiah Denton is before you read what he says about John Kerry.
In 1973, Jeremiah A. Denton, Jr. walked off an Air Force C-141 aircraft to freedom after being held captive in North Vietnam for more than seven years. Born in 1924 in Mobile Alabama, Denton graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. In June 1965, he was assigned to Attack Squadron 75 on the USS Independence flying the Grumman A-6 Intruder. On 18 July 1965, while pulling up after leading a bombing attack on enemy installations near Thanh Hoa, he was shot down and captured by North Vietnamese troops. While held prisoner, Denton became the first American subjected to four years of solitary confinement.
In 1966, during a television interview by the North Vietnamese and broadcast on American television, Denton gained national attention when, while being questioned, he blinked his eyes in Morse code, repeatedly spelling out the covert Mmessage "T-O-R-T-U-R-E". During his captivity he frequently served as the senior American Military officer in numerous camps in and around Hanoi.
On 12 February 1973, Denton was released and promoted to rear admiral in April 1973. In 1976 Denton's Vietnam experience was chronicled in the book When Hell Was in Session, and in an NBC movie of the same title, which won the 1979 Peabody Award. In 1979 Denton retired from the Navy as Commandant of the Armed Forces Staff College and returned to Mobile, Alabama. During his 34 years of military service, he received numerous awards and honors, to include: the Navy Cross, three ! Silver Stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and two Purple Hearts.
In November 1980, Denton became the first retired flag officer ever elected to the U. S. Senate. Some of his major committee assignments included: the Judiciary Committee, the Armed Services Committee, and the Veterans Affairs Committee. In 1983, Denton founded the National Forum Foundation dedicated to the concept of One Nation under God, the institution of the family, welfare reform, and peacekeeping and humanitarian affairs. In 1987, he was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to be Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Merchant Marine and Defense.
Among many other legislative accomplishments, Denton established the highly acclaimed international aid program known as The Denton Program, responsible for transporting over 20 million pounds of critical equipmentand supplies to needy people throughout the world. Denton currently serves as President of the National Forum Foundation and lectures on national and international affairs. He and his wife Jane reside in Mobile, Alabama. They have 7 children and 15 grandchildren.
Who is John Kerry? 03/09/04By JEREMIAH DENTON
(Rear Admiral, US Navy, Retired) (Former POW)Special to the Register Knowing that I served in the U. S. Senate with John Kerry and that, likehim, I am a veteran of the Vietnam War, many people have asked me what I think of him, particularly now that he's the apparent presidential nominee of the Democratic Party. When Kerry joined me in the Senate, I already knew about his record of defamatory remarks and behavior criticizing U. S. policy in Vietnam and the conduct of our military personnel there. I had learned in North Vietnamese prisons how much harm such statements caused. To me, his remarks and behavior amounted to giving aid and Comfort to our Vietnamese and Soviet enemies. So I was not surprised when his subsequent overall voting pattern in the Senate was consistently detrimental to our national security. Considering his demonstrated popularity during the Democratic primaries, I earnestly hope the American people will soberly consider Kerry's qualifications for the presidency in light of his position and record on both our cultural war at home and on national security issues.
To put it bluntly, John Kerry exemplifies the very reasons that I switched to the Republican Party. Like the majority in his political party, he has proven by his words and actions that his list of priorities -- his ideas on what most needs to be done to improve this country-- are almost opposite to my own. Here are two issue areas that consider top priorities: the war over the Soul of America, and national security.
Top priority should be placed on an effort to recover our most fundamental founding belief that our national objectives, policies and laws should reflect obedience to the will of Almighty God. Our Declaration of Independence, our national Constitution and each of the states' constitutions stress that basic American national principle. For about 200 years, the entire country, both parties and all branches of government understood that principle and tried to follow it, if imperfectly. For some 50 years, our nation's opinion-makers, our courts and, gradually, our politicians have been abandoning our historical effort to be "One Nation under God" in favor of becoming "one nation without God, " with glaringly unfavorable results.
I believe our political leaders, educational system, parents and opinion-makers must all return to teaching the truth most emphasized by our Founding Fathers. George Washington called religious belief indispensable to the prosperity of our democracy. William Penn said, "Men must choose to be governed by God or condemn themselves to be ruled by tyrants. " And when asked what caused the Civil War, President Lincoln said, "We have forgotten God. " In these days we have not only forgotten God, we are by our new standards of government and culture rejecting him as the acknowledged creator and as the endower of our rights. As a result, we are suffering cultural decay and human unhappiness. The decline of the institution of the family is the most obvious result.
Perhaps the current movie, "The Passion of the Christ, " will help many to come to realize the cost of the redemption of our sins, and the destructiveness of sin. Let's remember that over 95 percent of Americans during our founding days were Christians, and though our Founding Fathers stipulated that no one was to be compelled to believe in any religion, and also stipulated that there would be no single Christian denomination installed as a national religion, there was no question that our laws were to be firmly based on the Judean Ten Commandments and on Christ's mandate to love your neighbor as you love yourself.
That setup brought us amazing success as a nation, lifting us from our humble beginnings, through crisis after crisis, to become the leading nation of the world. Now, though, we are throwing away the very source of our strength and greatness. Yet I am not giving up on our country. I am encouraged at the stand and the attitude of our President, and inspired by his courage. There are many more of his stripe in Washington now. Though Rome and other empires have decayed and fallen, the cultural war in the United States can and should be won by the majority of Americans -- a majority to whom Kerry and the Democrats disdainfully refer to as the "far right. " They are people who believe in God and in the original concept of "one nation under God. "
As a nation, we are now at the point of no return. The GOOD GUYS are finally angry enough to join the fray, and I pray we are not too late. John Kerry is not among the good guys. The Democratic Party isn't, either. Indeed, on the subject of national security, John Kerry epitomizes a fatal weakness in the Democratic Party. During the decisive days of the Cold War, after the Democratic Party changed during the mid-1960s, the party was on the wrong side of every strategic debate on policy regarding Vietnam and the USSR, and is now generally on the wrong side in the war on terrorism. The truth is that the Cold War was barely won by a narrow margin -- A victory and a margin determined by the political choices made by our Government regarding suitable steps to deter Soviet attack and finally win the Cold War. If the U. S. had followed the Democratic Party line, the Cold War would have concluded with the U. S. having to surrender without a fight, or the U. S. would have been defeated in a nuclear war with acceptable losses to the USSR. It was not Johnson and Carter and the Democrats; it was Nixon, Reagan, George Bush and the Republicans who led us to victory in the Cold War. And George W. Bush and the Republican majority-- not John Kerry and theDemocrats-- can lead us to victory in the war on terrorism.
i read this guy's book when i was a young adult. wow. cannot truly imagine what this man and others have sacrificed for their country. and yes, the gop should march him out there and let him speak. sadly, this country is slowly watching its older, wiser generation getting closer to death. too much i am afraid is lost.
problem here is that the republicans are far closer to the left than ever before. moderates rule the party to get more votes. i would be suprised if a guy like denton was allowed to speak at a convention.
however, there may never be a true conservative movement again as more minorities enter the country / multiply- and are convinced that the democratic party has their best interests at heart.
the countries that hate the US enjoyed 8 yrs of freedom before the last election. if they are granted another 8 - it may be too much to recover come the next time another 9/11 happens.
I read his book as well.
I also read Stockdale's and Risnors. Both of whom, where POWs for 7 1/2 years along with Denton. These guys are the most heroic group of men that I have ever had the pleasure to read about. These guys have all been to the brink and came through in flying colors.
It is fascinating that all have very similiar views on almost all topics, and I think it stands on its own that what these guys know to be true, has much more likelyhood of being so than some other sap spouting off at the mouth.
Much of what they went through and the lessons they learned in doing so, have shaped most of my views on life and politics.
They LIVED sacrifice for others.
We let them down as a country. We put them in harms way for what? It was good that some vets and there were many started to talk out against that police action as it was called. Remember by the time many started to have there say late 69 into the 70's.
Many guys had been held in those chit holes for over 4/5 years. It is a blessing so many vets that spoke out were heard that helped end this nightmare. I say thanks to those who helped free our prisoners. And if this chit was not use by politician I believe more would say the same.
I do hope at this convention we have those who speak out for peace and justice. Speak out for the sick and those who have to decide between medicine or food on the table. Speak out against those who want to push there faith onto everyone. If Jesus came back today I believe the Christian right would try to crucify him all over again. Remember Jesus was a social reject and worried about the sick and the poor. These right wingers cant stand that.
Could you sound any more ignorant and uneducated in one post?
This week you will hear from a group that has artificially hijacked the causes of the poor in ththis coulntry and the world. You will here from a group that wants a world of dependants (such as yourself) who feel victimized (such as yourself) and want someone else to fix their problems, and are willing to rely on others or the governemnt for their satisfaction.
It is mindless brainwashed followers such as yourself that think these people offer anything but victimization and misery. It amazes me how easy you hand over your own self realiance and willing to submit yourself to power in the hands of a select few politicians.
But worst of all, you have the ignorant audacity to claim that Christians would kill Christ. A claim that would be enraging, if it were'nt so laughable. Because someone is not willing to hand over all matters of life to our government, welfare included, does not (by your stupid fukin logic) mean that they are not compassionate you moron. Your brainwashed mind tells you that people are not compassionate enough on their own, and therefore need to be forced ( though gov power) to give. Waht a rediculous thing to believe you communist puke.
Wake up, and read a fuking book,. study a little economics, and dable in a little history before you spout off with your ignorance.
And yes, I'm sick and fuking tired of you brainwashed dependant warriors spouting off your liberal hyperbole and diatrabes on this forum...I'm fed up with you having your way debating with other mental midgets such as yourself. ves...you are forewarned. Passes no longer .
Have a good day.
Iron, Iron. You must of miss all the post in here from the far right buddies that wish anyone poor or sick would just go away and die. You must be kidding if you think they would not hang Jesus by the balls if he help any one hungry or poor. I don't need the help myself. But would stand up and help those in need anyway I could. Like the special Olympics. I guess you think folks with all those problem are just sucking your good living right away from you. It's seems so easy for some.
As for Nam I'm dam glad so many vets came back and helped wake this nation up. We had nothing going for us in nam. It's good they helped pushed hard for a end. If you can find what ever was good that we proved in nam take time to tell us all.
I remember you said those Viet Nam draft dodgers should be shot in the back. And Kerry earned his medals even though he symbolically threw them away. O.K. I asked what the difference was w/Iraq draft dodgers and you said things are different now. Yeah I guess now its about the oil, even though the price has gone up, plus its a volunteer force. I can't even keep up w/the reasoning. Bush lied, Right Wing Conspiracy, Neo-Cons hate the lower class, etc.
No attacks on American soil since 9/11. Why do I feel that the first thing you'd say if, (God Forbid, something else happened), why are we spending $ overseas, Bush is responsible, etc., etc. Well if Clinton is responsible for the dot com boom, (I still don't know why he let it tank towards the end?), I guess Bush is responsible for no more terrorist attacks using the same logic. I'll admit I do not like Clinton, but I don't hate him. You be hard pressed to make me believe that some here are not outright Bush haters. For someone who talks about religion you sure seem to hate your fellow man. If you take this the wrong way I'll just quit replying to your posts, but you really should think before laying the blame on others you disagree with- something about "Let he who is w/out sin cast the first stone."
Instead of watching the socialist/communist party convention this evening, I suggest all Bush supporters watch the Simple Life on Fox. Keep the ratings for the destroyers of American values down and further support the only quasi-conservative network in the country.
Ironlock, great post, pretty much sums up my feelings in a
nutshell. More and more it is finally coming out (the truth)
about the real John Kerry, the real ideals of the Democratic
Party. Just hating Bush won't win this election, and that's all
they have. And I, like you, am sick and tired of these bleeding
heart liberals pissing and moning about all that's wrong in this
world but never pitching in and providing solutions. Their only
solution is hating Bush and calling him every name in the book.
What a bunch of spineless sheep. Pathetic.
Chanman, yes Clinton dodged the draft. He dodged the draft in a war he was against. This is what seperates him from Bush and Cheney. They too both dodged the draft but they claim to have been in favor of the war. In my opinion that makes puts them a rung lower on the scum meter.
Respect your opinion SD. Also thought its right on what the L.A. radio makes of Chenney & Rumsfeld.
Rummy is the cantankerous old man who yells @ kids playing on his lawn and is forever harassing the mail boy whereas Cheney reminds one of the demented, local druggist.
Keep fighting the good fight...
