Maybe a chorus of boos was exactly what Joey Harrington needed.

After all, the Detroit Lions quarterback has been nearly perfect in his first two preseason games, completing 14-of-15 attempts for 146 yards and a 107.2 passer rating.

And although he has yet to throw a touchdown, the displeasure which greeted Harrington in Detroit?s? first practice session seems to be gone, along with any doubt Harrington?s the Lions number one pivot.

?I felt really comfortable the last couple weeks,? said Harrington. ?I feel like I?ve made some good decisions and thrown some good balls. I?d obviously like to get in the endzone this week ? that?s objective number one. But that will come with doing a good job moving the ball.?

He?ll have a whole half and maybe more to work with as head coach Steve Mariucci plans on playing his starters until at least halftime and likely longer when the St. Louis Rams come to town Monday night as 4-point road dogs.

While Detroit did struggle in its previous two exhibition games ? scoring just 16 points -quarterback coach Fred Graves says the offense is finally starting to come around, which could be bad news for a Rams defense that?s allowed an average of 364.5 yards in its first two preseason contests.

"Guys are starting to get confidence," Graves told the Oakland Press following Saturday`s practice. "I don`t think there was a disbelief in the spring, but more of a hesitation. Now, the guys believe in what`s going on with the plays, who`s going to do what, being familiar with the calls and what we`re trying to get out of each play."

Detroit?s offense has been a hot topic of conversation since the signing of Jeff Garcia. The former Pro Bowl QB was supposed to put pressure on the young Joey Harrington, but so far, he?s making it easy for the Lions to settle on Harrington as the number one pivot.

Garcia has thrown three picks but does have the Lions only preseason touchdown ? a 29-yard strike to Charles Rogers. The third year wide out has been impressive thus far but still need to prove himself after missing the final 11 games of his rookie season and all except the first three plays of his second season because of collarbone breaks.

?Each day, he`s gotten more confidence that he can just go out and play now,? said Harrington of his third year receiver. ?With that comes confidence and more explosion. As his explosion comes back, he becomes a full-fledged weapon for us."
