A woman pleaded guilty Monday to charges stemming from using her 11-year-old daughter to peddle heroin for her, sometimes while wearing her nightgown.
Alison Lolanda Davis, 37, was also sentenced to five years' prison in a plea deal. She has been held in jail since her arrest in January 2004, unable to pay her $120,000 bond. Circuit Judge Israel Reyes said she will get credit for time served.
Davis asked Reyes if she could get out of jail for personal business, but he refused. Prosecutor Edward Martinez said proceedings were pending in juvenile court to terminate her parental rights. The girl was put into state custody last year.
Davis pleaded guilty to all nine counts against her, including cocaine possession, drug trafficking, child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a child. The girl wasn't charged.
Police said they started watching the area near the girl's South Miami home in October 2003 after a tip. Officers said they saw the girl regularly selling $10 and $20 doses of heroin from in front of her home to drivers and pedestrians. The girl was following her mother's orders, officers said. Undercover officers said they also made three purchases before a raid.
The girl and her sister remain in the custody of the Florida Department of Children & Families, agency spokesman Peter D. Coats said Monday. He said all other details of the case were confidential.
