I remember when I was younger I loved watching him. This is awful... but I guess these kinds of things go with the territory.

this is the video of his crash... and it is graphic.

It seems to me that the EMT's didn't do a good job... but who knows, I know I don't.

I feel awful for his family and friends. 24 is way too young... I'm 24! :scared

you are right. the 1st EMTs to reach him did the opposite of what youre supposed to do. they just tried to flip him over on his back, didnt stabalize his neck or anything. it looks like he could have died on impact maybe? either way, the EMTs were terrible...when they were running him down to the exit on the backboard his head as moving all over the place, not secured at all.

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP)?Jeremy Lusk, an American freestyle motocross racer, died of head injuries Tuesday after crashing while trying to land a backflip in competition. He was 24.

Jorge Ramirez, chief of the intensive care unit at Calderon Hospital where Lusk was taken, said the motocross racer suffered severe brain damage and a possible spinal cord injury.

Lusk won a gold medal at the 2008 X Games. He was injured Saturday night when he failed to complete a full rotation while attempting a Hart Attack backflip and slammed headfirst into the dirt. Lusk crashed in almost identical fashion in the freestyle semifinals at the 2007 X Games but was not hurt.

He had a successful 2008 season, winning Freestyle gold at the X Games and silver in Best Trick when he landed the first double-grab Hart Attack backflip. He won a bronze helmet in Freestyle at the Moto X World Championships in his hometown of San Diego.

Ramirez said Lusk died with his parents and his wife, Lauren, at his side.

?He was in a medicine-induced coma as a protective measure, and the medicine was being reduced to see how his organism responded,? he said. ?That didn?t mean he was going to wake up. He was in shock and that got worse last night, until he stopped responding and entered into cardiac and respiratory failure.?

Lusk lived in Temecula, Calif.

So i'm guessing they weren't really worried about the spinal injury... just the massive brain damage. BUT the emt's should have been more careful while moving him. IMO, there was probably nothing to be done that would have saved his life, but it makes you wonder if the EMT's furthered his injuries...

That was brutal, RIP Mr. Lusk. But the slo-mo was brutal on the way he landed and his neck got bent backwards. Not a physiology major, but the force on that area of the neck that was exerted suprises me that he was alive after the crash much less put into a drug-enhanced coma.

Even to think that inches could/would have made a signifigant difference.

Why would the EMT's even attempt to bring him off on the stretcher, seems to me the ambulance should have pulled out immediately. And if no room to do so, sounds like a tragic sense of poor planning. Immediate care most likely would have not made a difference, but it didn't appear those guys had a doctor nearby to even attempt anything in terms of heroic measures anyway...

He looked like a bobble head on that stretcher...they could of put him over their shoulders and carried him out like that, would of served the same purpose as what those clowns did
