Good questions. I'm wondering if we (the world) are entering a kind of revolutionary phase again, akin to the 60's kind of thing. Rap, gang, hip-hop stuff is pretty old, so these kids are going to look for another outlet. Just feels kind of like the same kind of thing to me.

The root cause of the issues are gangs of loutish Lebanese hoods who have nothing better to do with their time than going around bashing, harrassing, spitting and generally being assholes. It's been going for over a decade in Sydney and it came to a head last SUnday when a protest rally was organised. Unfortunately, and predictably, it got out of hand and some drunks picked on some poor buggars who were just hanging around watching. Luckily noone was seriously hurt in those incidents.

All the violence since Sunday has been perpetrated by Lebanese thugs....bashing dadds as they take out the garbage bins while a 10 year old son looks on, stabbing some poor bloke who was simply standing outside a golf club, bashing hundreds of cars with baseball bats, attacking 4 churches, firing shots above a crowd of women and children at a school function etc etc.

Like I said, its been going on for years......Mums taking their kids to the beach get called "Aussie sluts" by these little scum bags, they openly mock and defy police, gangs of them have been done for raping white girls, and they always hunt in packs because they are cowards. And they hate white Australians....fact.

And thats why we saw much anger and some regretful scenes last Sunday at the beach.

I saw a headline on cnn.com that read "anti-Arab rioters smash cars" or something to that affect. Complete BS. 99% of all incidents since the Sunday rally have been perpetrated by "men of middle-eastern appearence" ( to use a term common in our press recently).

It's unpleasent to say the least.

You dont get 5000 people at a rally which was organised by text messaging alone without a fairly serious and long-simmering problem under-pinning it all.

It's hard not to sound racist when presenting people with the facts as I see them, and I hope I havent come across as such. But you gotta call it as you see it.

that`s not exactly what i expected to hear...based on what i`ve seen and read in the american media.....

i`m a little shocked....if what phar lap says is even partially true.....and i`m not challenging his assessment...sounds like he`s an aussie based on his phraseology....i wonder why the mainstream media hasn`t provided a more balanced picture...giving the root causes(underpinnings..nicely put) that led to the situation....

i hope mr c is alright...we disagree, but he seems like a decent guy....haven`t heard from him since this stuff started....maybe he`s been active in another forum.........i think we`ll get a different perspective from him on this issue....

Thanks for the concern, gw (really, I'm quite touched! )...I'm a long way away from all the troubles down here in sleepy ol' Tassie.

Actually, tbh, I'm a fair way removed from the whole scene...pharlap definately seems to have a much better idea of the ins and outs than I do, so, yeah...I believe every word of what he says.

Like you say, the news aren't exactly going to come out and say,. "It's been simmering for years and they ****ing deserve it!"....and I can't bring myself to watch our "current affair" shows, which I can imagine are having an absolute field day.

The thing that really pisses me off, is that it was never a religious issue. It was, as parlap says, just a sub-culture of adolecent, Middle Eastern 'thugs', who for some reason think they are far too cool/tough for the rest of the world...actually (and pharlap could well correct me on this), it is very much a hip-hop type scene...hotted up cars, street drags, music pumpin' kind of stuff...

Anyway, as I said, it was never an issue of religion....then someone goes and burns down a church!

If there's one thing that ****ing annoys me more than religious violence, it's using religion as an excuse for violence.

As it happens I'm off to Melbourne tomorrow to see Green Day in concert, so with a bit of luck I'll make it through the weekend in one piece!

I'm a fair way removed also up here in Queensland mr. c. I just have a couple of close mates who live around Bondi and have done so for a long time.

In fact I attended a community rally at Bondi around 10 years ago after the same group of Lebanese hoods rioted and went around bashing people (white people) who ran across their path. And it hasnt improved since then from what I am told.

(In-laws are renovating a home down in Tassie....would love to have a second home down there myself if only to get away from the bloody heat!!!)
