Good job, Jack! This had gotten out of control and I don't have time to catch up and read it all.

Let me put it this way so the educated sports investor will easily understand my view point on this game:

100 % of my wager is on Ohio St -4, I feel that about 60 % of that money is educated dollars, the other 40% are dumber than a box of rocks.

If my handicap is wrong, and I am on the wrong side of this game I will ADMIT IT after the game. I am a Buckeye fan and have been since 1968, four years after I became a Browns fan! Being a fan has nothing to do with backing a side or total with hard cold cash.

Derek,... a wise man once said give enough other people what they want and you can get anything you want. I hope you put your education together with that attitude and become a very successful person regardless of what you do. The United States of America is about everyone working together for a common goal, greed, ridicule and self pride tears down the very structure of our country. Many uneducated citizens have other abilities and skills that fit into the economy to make your world a better place.

Think about it, or as my Dad used to say " put that in your pipe and smoke it" (that statement was made in good humor and you should not be offended one ounce by it)

Best of luck in life!

"I'm in law school. People like me are going to be out witting you YOUR WHOLE LIFE, so get used to it pal."

I been watching Buckeye football MY WHOLE LIFE legal boy, and we been playing winning ball my WHOLE LIFE :

SO GET USED TO IT PAL

I'm more than a fan, I'm part of a community and family of alumni that your uneducated self will never understand thats why I back ND. Not because I live in a trailer park down the street from the combine like you probably do.

As far as OSU/ND, I never said ND would win the game. NEVER. I said it would be entertaining and not a blowout. I was correct. ND had a chance to win till the final 2 minutes.

If your post is to be the better man, you failed miserably

As far as this season, ND ends up light years ahead of your buckeyes. They went from obscurity and a .500 season to 9-3 and back in the national spotlight

OSU, on the other hand, went BACKWARDS ALL YEAR. They were supposed to be national title contenders and ended up with 2 losses. ND overachieved, they have NOTHING to be ashamed of. OSU does, a win over a two loss team in the Fiesta bowl was NOT TRESSEL's GOAL when the season started. Mission failed. ND had NOTHING to lose and made far more progress than the buckeyes.

Sorry to deflate your bubble, but you have been outwitted again. Thats why I made those comments before. I can take any situation and put a tilt on it that makes you realize what a loser you are. GET USED TO IT!!!

That comment wasnt even directed at you. Its not your job to defend every poor person that gets ridiculed or embarassed. If someone can start a debate, they deserve to be proved wrong. Stay out of other people's business. didnt your father teach you that?

and "WE" have been playing winning football?? who the heck are you?? You are just one of 25 million buckeye fans that live in ohio. You didnt go to school there, never played for the team, and have NO AFFILIATION WHATSOEVER WITH THE SCHOOL OR PROGRAM. You dont deserve to say the word "WE"

One thing I don't understan is:

If OSU beat ND, how is ND's season more successful ??

Am I missing something ???

Isn't every teams goal at the start of the season to win the National Championship ??

Success is defined by goals and progress towards those goals. Every team's goal is NOT the national championship. Every team's DREAM is the national championship. Unfortunately, only a handful of teams have a legitimate shot at the NC every season. To say ND's goal was a national championship, coming off a 6-6 campaign, with a new head coach, and UNRANKED to start the year is downright stupid.

What was ND's goal? A winning season. When you are .500 the year before, and a head coach is in their first year, even a .500 year is progress. ND not only went.500, they went 9-3. Pretty damn good.

OSU on the other hand started the season as a top 5 team. The national title was to be a battle between OSU, Texas, and USC. USC and Texas ran the table and will play in the Rose Bowl. OSU's goal was to be in that game as well. They are NOT in it, although they were one of the VERY FEW with a realistic chance to make it. Therefore they did NOT accomplish their goals this season.

ND came further and progressed as a program far beyond what anyone would expect this year. If you asked analysts, or took a fan poll pre-season, asking if OSU would play a BCS game, I bet 80% would have said yes. If you asked that same question about ND, NOBODY would have said yes. That proves how far they have come. OSU was just playing its role in a season where they actually DISAPPOINTED!

so to sit back and say HAAA we beat you, WTF does that mean? Its kind of like VT beating Louisville in the Gator bowl today. I dont think Frank Beamer's goal was to play a 9-2 team in the gator bowl this season, just like Tressel's was not to play a preseason unranked team in a bowl game. What does that prove for a program that was supposed to be national title contenders??? NOTHING. ND had NOTHING to prove, they proved themselves just by BEING THERE. THATS what you are missing!

I dont know how bad your life is, but I really feel bad that you have to be so jealous of everything I do. You are jealous of my future career, my past accomplishments, and you dont even know me. Why? Its a world of haves and have nots. Complaining and jealousy will never get you anything but pity. That, you have certainly earned from me

MOre simply put. OSU went 10-2, ND went 9-3

OSU's goal was to be 12-0 and win the rose bowl.
ND's realistic goal was to be maybe, 7-5, 6-5, anything around .500

Not to mention the fact that ND is working with limited talent for two reasons. Recent struggles have hurt recruiting, AND much higher academic admissions requirements lower the grade of athletes ND can recruit. You are comparing Notre Dame to a large public state college. ND has an academic reputation to uphold as well, something OSU doesnt have to worry about.

Thats what ND is all about. ND has ALWAYS been underachievers....the win one for the gipper, the Rudy story, its all about taking limited resources and doing your best through determination and pride. Just to take the field in a BCS game today after not even being RANKED preseason is a victory for ND. Why? Because they're the only ones that believed they could do it and they did. They came up short today, but like I said, their season was a victory.

Success is relative. I am an ND fan and before the season started I didnt even expect a bowl game. You OSU fans know you expected a national title shot, and I know you are disappointed, its ok to admit it. Going 10-2 is not a victory when you are expected to do more. Sorry I cant concede a victory to a team that falls short of everyone's expectations.

So your saying Weis goal wasn't to go undefeated...did you even hear him in pre-game talking about how this was personally disappointing season to him because it is all about winning...And he is right its all about the Ws...Second place is first place loser...then again your probably not the competitive type and is someone who believes everyone who tried should get a ribbon...yeah you won some games this year but you haven't didn't beat anyone ND made the BCS because of their one close loss...You guys should have played Oregon...OSU was clearly the better team...you even won your stouted stat of turnover margin and they still came up short

That you are! :mj07:

If OSU had won a national title this season, I would have nothing to say. But they didnt.

Second place is the first loser? I guess you can say that about OSU's national title hopes. Wasnt OSU preseason #4? Gee, they really did alot this year. They are right where they started. You call that success? When you start at 4, you didnt do CHITE unless you won a national title.

sure weis wanted to win and was disappointed to lose. Thats human nature. The man is used to winning championships. That doesnt mean the team was a legitimate national title contender. ANYONE on this forum will back that notion.

scott4USC...is that you??

Get your head out of your ass buddy. Finishing 4th in the nation is an accomplishment that any team, player, coach or fan can be proud of. Losing two games to teams that are legitimately better is not disappointing, especially when one team ran the table and is playing for a national championship, and the other is one play away from also running the table.

You are correct, the Buckeyes did not reach their ultimate goal of winning the national championship for the second time in 4 years, but to argue that 1) the season was a disappointment and 2) ND somehow came out on top in this situation is sad to read from a self-proclaimed future to be successful lawyer. But I guess that's just it. You are simply some student who has a computer and can type. You don't know shit about shit. You aren't even a lawyer, yet you boast about how you argue with the best of them. Get a life, seriously.

Now lets talk disappointment and goals. Goals: Ohio State won the Big Ten, they won 10 games, they beat Michigan, they won their bowl game (and they got to beat ND, which was an added bonus). All preseason goals. Disappointment: losing to Texas was a disappointment, losing to Penn State was a disappointment...well that's really it. Bouncing back to finish as one of the top 4 teams nationwide, beat Michigan, pwn ND and Chucky "I always have white crust around my mouth" Weis, establish our offense as a rising powerhouse, have one of the top defenses in the country, the list goes on.

In summation, your argument is flawed because you are flawed. You try to bully people online with some kind of mental divinity, but face the facts you aren't that smart, you aren't that cool, and you sure as shit aren't a good wannabe lawyer. Badgering people, insulting their intelligence, and boasting about how smart you are won't win you shit in the court room or life. Learn to control yourself and you might start impressing people instead of making yourself look like an ass.

I grew up 45 minutes outside of South Bend and have been to at least 15 games there, both in the past and in recent years, so I know alllll about how obnoxious many Notre Dame fans are, but this Derek clown takes the cake.

But before someone calls me a teamist, let me tell you that some of my best friends are Irish fans.

ND is obnoxious because it stands for things most NCAA programs DONT stand for anymore?? OK!

ND did take limited resources, meaning talent, and go 9-3 this season. ND had the LEAST amount of talent of any team in the top 10 at ANY point this season, but I guess thats NOT overachieving??

Lemme break it down because you are having comprehension problems:

Overachieving=doing MORE than what is reasonably expected given the circumstances.

Underachieving=doing LESS than what is reasonably expected given the circumstances

As I already stated, ND took a talentless, unranked team, facing one of the nations toughest schedules, and made it to a BCS game. That is OVERACHIEVING!

OSU started the season in the top 5, expected to play for a NC, lost 2 games along the way, and played in the FIESTA BOWL INSTEAD! That is UNDERACHIEVING!

Hats off to OSU for a good year. From start to finish they were impressive, even MORE impressive now that UT won. But success measured by EXPECTATIONS and how you RESPOND to those expectation. Falling short, as OSU did, takes a back seat to feel good stories like ND this season.

To look at it another way, do you guys think OSU is sitting at home tonight patting themselves on the back, saying "WOW Texas is good, good for those guys"? HELL NOOOOOOOOO

They are sitting there KICKING THEMSELVES because they KNOW they had the talent to be the ones hoisting that trophy themselves!! So are all you OSU fans.

How did ND react to tonights game AND Monday's loss? No big deal, they KNOW they came so far and made so much improvement this season that it was UNBELIEVABLE they even PLAYED in a BCS game!! They have NO REGRETS because they know they did their best.

OSU cant say that. A play here, a play there, and that coulda been them tonight. Now you tell me who leaves this season with a better feeling?? Damn right its ND

I'm not the least bit disappointed in the season OSU had. It's true that they should have beaten Texas. If not for a dropped 8 yard pass in the end zone by Hamby on what should have been the easiest catch of his life, they would have won.

This despite a screwed up QB rotation because of Smiths suspension. That one got away, but they didn't underachieve.

They got beat by Penn State in what looked/sounded like the one of the craziest environments that i've seen. Although they only lost by 7, it never seemed like they were really in the game and Tressel was way too conservative.

So they lost to the #1 team in the country and the 2nd or 3rd team in the country. OSU will likely finish 4th. They beat Michigan once again and trounced the #8 team in a BCS bowl. If that's 'underachieving', then i'll take it.

As far as limited resources? Are you kidding? ND has one of the best offenses in the country and they were shut down. Their resources must have been pretty good to lose to USC on the last play of the game.

On a broader scale, their 'resources' include their own network and the fact that they don't have to split bowl money (14.5 million in this case, which OSU has to split with the rest of the Big 10). Add to that their alumni donors and they actually have unlimited resources. They also have a huge advantage in recruiting as a result of their tradition and exposure.

I'll tell ya, as arrogant and obnoxious as many ND fans are, i've never heard that one. The 'poor ND, they are sooo disadvantaged and working with limited resources' routine. That's a good one.
