Wow, what a dream BCS NC matchup. Both teams have 2 heisman contenders, great coaching staffs, great talent, great traditional programs, etc. etc. etc.

Trojans looked HUNG OVER tonite, a little FAT and HAPPY w/themselves....while Oklahoma looked lean, mean, and HUNGRY!

This is what a team (USC in this case) looks like when they are more worried about the following (pick one or ALL) than playing a game:

1) coaches leaving/staying...
2) the Heisman Trophy...
3) looking good for pollsters...
4) am I going to the NFL or not?
5) what's my stat-line look like?
6) is ESPN here?

Looks like Pete & Co. have ALOT of work to do. Ucla (and Oklahoma) may have done them a BIG favor tonite. .

One thing's for sure: the SC team that came to the Rose Bowl tonite gets beat badly in the Orange Bowl. I highly doubt you will see a repeat of tonights performance in the OB. Remember how USC played in their last 2 BCS bowl games

OU has not faced a team like USC all year. Same could be said for USC. However, I think USC has played the slightly stronger SOS. USC defense has faced better offenses all year. I am not sure which team has faced better defenses. I do know USC has beat 2 BCS teams this year which is very impressive. I think schedule opponents favor USC over OU.

QB's are prob. a wash except we don't know how well White will react against pressure and a sophisticated defense. OU only put up 13pts against the best defense they faced all year and that was against Texas. Everyone here knows White gets ALL DAY to throw with that SUPERB/VETERAN OL he has protecting him. Same is said about Peterson. That same OL opens some PRETTY BIG holes for AD.

Can the USC DL stop the OU rushing attack and put pressure on White? I don't think anybody really can answer that question and that will be the key to the game IMO.

Can OU defense stop all the explosive weapons on the USC offense? Chow will have a month to prepare for OU and we all know how good he is. OU has not faced a player like Reggie Bush all year and an offense with as many explosive weapons as USC. On the other hand, the USC defense has faced CAL which has an explosive offense. Especially when they were healthy when they played USC. UCLA has an explosive offense with tons of talent and USC defense shut them down pretty well today for the most part.

Where is OU's biggest advantage? EXPERIENCE! This is an extremely young USC team, especially on offense. USC starts only 1 senior and he splits time with a junior. This is a very very young offense and they are NOT consistent. Who would expect them to be? Carroll should get coach of the year award with this young of a USC team. Truly amazing. Next year is USC's NC run. Not this year due to all the injuries/suspensions.

USC has been excellent on special teams coverage up until today. They better get that straightened out and NOT give OU short field position. UCLA killed USC on special teams today except for field goal kicking. OU has excellent special team returners.

I think this will be a fantastic game and I honestly don't know who will win. As of right now I can't make a prediction. Have to see how USC looks in upcoming practices and what the coaches say. I am def. hedging my USC futures wager and will be wagering around 5k total on OU ML or spread. Already on OU ML +173 prop bet for $950 to win over $1500 I put in last night. Right now I see the line is USC -4 and money going on OU. I hope the line starts going the other direction. If USC was playing Auburn, I would NOT be hedging my futures wager. I was hoping for a USC vs AU matchup because I am a lot more confident with a USC win against AU vs OU.

All in all, I do not think you can focus on USC's performance against UCLA today and OU's performance against CO. CO is not a good team and NOT a talented team. Everyone knows that. UCLA is very very talented offense and average at best defense (prob. below average but they played well today). Remember, UCLA had 3 weeks to prepare for USC while USC had 1 week to prepare for UCLA. USC just beat rival ND and then 1 week later had rival UCLA @UCLA. Not easy thing to do beating rivals back to back weeks. Remember that and give credit to UCLA. They played very well today and Dorell had his team prepared and showed no sign of rust today with 3 weeks off.

Any other thoughts on this matchup?

ucla was the only pac-10 team the UW almost beat :scared

I have future on USC for NC just like you, but I cant feel too confident now, this usc is not close to last 2 years ... their only impressive game this year vs a decent team was vs ASU ...

I think you gotta give UCLA credit. I think they played absolutely out of thier minds with nothing to lose today. I don't think it was a matter of USC being weak in any way. We all know how potent USC is. Hell they were on pace to score 40 points at halftime. They just had 3 or 4 flat series' in the 2nd half where UCLA stepped it up and the UCLA defense played the game of their lives.

Is that for sure? I think Cal *could* get jumped by Texas. Will they... no idea.

Regardless, I think you are making a wise move hedging. I think USC wins. Personally, from what I've seen on the field, Auburn would give USC the tougher game. But that doesn't matter. What matters is that you can get Oklahoma as a dog. And if you play the Sooners at +4 and somehow get a USC win/Okie cover, damn....

Sooner Nation
Let's not forget that this Oklahoma's third national championship game in five years. When given over a week to prepare, OU has lost only twice under Stoops. I think it will be a great game, but I know the way the Sooner Defense shows up in championship games and I feel good. We are a month away and I can't wait.

I think it's a very smart move to hedge with the points that OU will get...great call before the season and gl to your team in the game

should be a great game;)

Guys..... UCLA is a big rivalry game just like OU and OSU which was very close. Base your wager on the matchups not what the teams did against other teams.

wasnt that ucla game a big rivalry game in 2002 and 2003 when they got their asses handed to them?

Each game is it's own entity, that's my point. Ou barely beat OSU and has lost to them a couple of times over the last 3 or 4 years. Does this mean that Texas Tech, who beat OSU handedly, would beat OU?

All I know is that I would hedge that 9/1 USC ticket, Scott.

The main thing I have noticed with USC is that they have been facing inferior coaching staffs since Chow and Carroll came on board. Carroll and Chow out X and O everybody they face. Only Tedford has had the brains to scheme with em, and he has done very well the last two years with far less talent than the Trojans.

In the past three years, USC has played maybe one team with similar NFL type talent (Michigan 2003). Carroll/Chow coached circles around Lloyd and staff, which wasn't unexpected. Bob Stoops is not Lloyd Carr or Tyrone Willingham. I think OU wins this battle of the titans.

no matter whom wins between Okie and SoCal it will always be known as a tainted National Championship if Auburn beats Va Tech.

Maybe to Auburn fans. How could it be a tainted NC when the AP poll has AU #3, Coaches Poll has AU #3, AND the computer poll has AU #3. So where will the NC be tainted? NOBODY has AU #1 or even #2.

In 1979 their were 5 teams that finished the season undefeated. Was that NC tainted?

Actually wasnt it a split title in 79?

While true that no poll has Auburn 1 or 2, there are many who feel that way, including some voters. But I guess I find it tainted for a different reason. Auburn is a team from a major conference, beat the most ranked teams of the three, and they dont get a chance against the other 2 such teams. And moreover, the reason is not becuase of schedule or the Tenn game or all that after the fact BS. It is because of the pre-season polls. If the first poll was October 10, after USC barely escaped Cal, OU had shut out Texas yet showed no offensive production, ans Auburn had shellacked Tenn in Knoxville (who then won at Georgia that week)and had beaten LSU, I ahve no doubt, right or wrong, that Auburn would have been 1 or 2. And this recent Tenn game as an excuse is a joke. What bowl is Stanford going to, and USC had to come back to win by 3? Somehow to voters (trying to justify themselves) that shows grit. When OU has to come back to beat AM after winning by 77 last year, it is because College Station is a tough place to play, as opposed to the fact their defense and special teams were abused. Worse the Auburn-Tenn argument is made the same day USC struggles to beat UCLA, a team drubed at home by the team that finished 5th in the Big 12 South.

And Scott for one who this year touts the computers so much as unbiased we know where they had your team ranked last year so you cant fairly go back and forth on your criteria.

But, lets be clear, any matchup from those 3 leaves one team unfairly left out. Last year, it didnt bother me so much as each team had a loss, so they put themselves in the box.

what gets me is the strenght of schedule garbage....

Oregon and Bowling Green were as much gimmies at OU as were Auburns schedule against Toilet U.

but that gave OU a HUGE boost in the SOS ratings....

the SOS ratings are a joke...you should not average the ratings and W/L records of your opponents....

you should get more points if you beat a top10 team on the road and a #150 team at home than 2 #50 ranked teams at home...

but the exact opposite is true...its ridiculous
