I no longer consider myself an expert at handicapping the NFL but I do know football so I am going to post some thoughts on this game. I am not betting the game, but if I were I think Raiders -3 1/2 is an extremely strong play.

The Raiders team that you are going to see Sunday night bears little or no resemblance to the Raiders team that lost 4 straight games in October. For that reason I am going to ignore what happened during that stretch and consider the Raiders a one loss team, with that loss coming against the Dolphins.

In looking at the way the Dolphins stopped the Raiders, it was simple, but not easy. They played man coverage and they brought heat on Gannon without having to send men. That is basically it. Very simple, but not easy at all.

I guaran-damn-tee that Derrick Brooks is full of shit and that the Bucs will revamp their defensive strategy for this game. They have to, otherwise the Raiders will put up 40. They will try to bring heat on the outside by letting Rice pin back his ears (just as Taylor did with Miami) and try to blow up those garbagey short routes by letting Barber & Co. play tight man the way Madison, Sutain and Fletcher did.

The problem with this, of course, is that Tampa's dominant defense was built on playing arguably the best Cover 2 in the history of the game, or at least of this generation. They have so much spped and so many smart players among their linebackers, safeties and corners that they can zone any offense that tries to go downfield to death. Who the heck knows if Tampa's corners are capable of covering Brown, Rice and Porter on those garbage routes? If they are, the Bucs could easily win. If they are not, watch out.

Obviously the weakness of the Raiders defensively is the running game. Ricky pounded the crap out of that defense but the Bucs have nobody to mirror his play. To be perfectly honest, I don't know exactly what Tampa Bay has in terms of weapons on offense.

When the Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2001, Nolan Dalla commented that the AFC had clearly become the dominant conference. It is hard to argue with that. They have now won 4 of the last 5 Super Bowls and top to bottom the depth of talent far outweighs the NFC's talent pool. I am a person who dislikes the Raiders immensely, but I just cannot find any way to justify picking Tampa.

Hmm where do I begin ?

Hmm where do I begin ?

How bout for instance....
Let's take a look at the 49ers game for both teams and Garcia's stats.
Garcia was 25-36 282 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions against Oakland. He was a miserable 22-41 193 yards, 0 touchdowns and 3 interceptions against TB. He completed 69% of his passes against the Raiders and just 54% against TB. He also ran for 46 yards against the Raiders and 0 yards against TB.
If those numbers don't tell the story, I don't know what does.

Top 3 Tampa MUST do's....
Apply major pressure to Gannon
Sling it around the yard.
Clutch kicking w/Martin Gramatica

Top 3 Oakland MUST do's.....
Ride the horses that brought you (Rice, Brown etc...)
Protect protect protect Gannon (they fail, TB wins) Simple as that.
Don't give up the big play (like Joes 72 yd rec LW)

I see TB scoring around 24-27 pts while holding Oak to 20-24.

No strong play by any means for me.
Tb wins ? TB covers ?
Oak smokes ?

Who knows ?

I wish I did.

I made my money this year & I'm definitely NOT going to blow a chunk on this "toss-up" game. Just rooting against the Faders should be enough fun for a CHEF fan like me but being with all them Jackers I gotta play this......
a little both + 4 & moneyline.

Sticking with the dog here. He's barking, barely.

Heading to Sunset in a few to have some cocktails with the Jackers.
Gonna miss ya this year, Nick.

Yes but remember ..........when Oakland lost to SF it was in the midst of their 4 straight losses.................and when TB played SF, SF was coming off a exhausting game against NY and playing NY while TB was at home resting...........No such benefits in this game.

I don't belive in this stuff ..if A beats B and B beats C..then A beats C.

But how about when The Steelers went to Tampa and bitch slapped the Bucs. And Oakland torched The Steelers @ PITT.

Give me hell if im wrong.
But overall for the year TB built that Df's stats vs some poor Of's.
Oak had to play I believe 4 of the top 5 Of's and 7 out of the top 10. So there Df's rateing should have taken a bigger hit.
If you dont play Of's like K City and Buff your Df's can look better over all.

We've always had the D until this year. Hope they make some good moves in the off season to improve the worst D in the league..
