Here are the Team Recruiting rankings according to Scout.com

Three SEC schools in the Top 5 and 7 in the Top 25, but what is surprising is Iowa at 6 and Arizona and South Carolina in the Top 20.

I feel certain that some members of this board (*cough...scott4usc...cough*) will disagree with these ranking, but for those of us that live in the real world....

Anyway, thought it would be good for off-season discussion.... Here's the link.

USC is currently #5, but who cares. What I care about is average star ranking. That means QUALITY!

USC is the only team that has an average star ranking above 4 and USC's average ranking is leaps and bounds higher than anybody else. Truly amazing.

By the end of the day USC will have a top 3 class and will have the highest average star ranking.

Iowa and Nebraska are doing great job recruiting. Stoops at Arizona is kicking major a$$.

USC, TN, and OU are my top 3 rankings. (not necessarily in that order)

Looks like it is still changing throughout the day....

Scott, you know I was just :poke you.... Although I do get tired of seeing you post USC this and USC that, I think that (although biased) your intentions are good and you provide valuable information to the board. It's nice to still have a few die-hards like yourself making conversation in the CFB forum during the off-season.

Best of luck to your team....

Why is taoist laughing at USC?

USC currently has 6, count it, 6 5-star commits. The next highest in the country is 3. That means USC has twice as many 5-star recruits than then next highest in the country and USC is still waiting on signing 2 more. So USC possibly could end up with 8 5-star recruits. TN among others are currently at 3.

USC set the recruiting record last year with 5-star recruits. Now they may get 8 this year? Not fair!

*Thanks Taoist I knew you poking fun. Its the off-season and I enjoy talking CFB but nothing I say isn't true or far fetched. Often my predictions are solid.

Scott, you know better than to base any future teams success on star rankings as the bust rate is huge for many of these five star guys.

ESPN's current rankings

1. Nebraska
2. Tenn
3. USC
4. Iowa
5. Mich
6. Oklahoma
7 A&M
8. Georgia
9. Vt
10. Miami

Just my opinion but I think that Iowa had the top recruiting class in the country, as they nailed down the toughest part of any football team the interior lines. As we al lhave seen Ferentz is on par with Alex Gibbs as far as teaching lineman blocking techniques that work and with this class he should have by far the best offensive line in the country in 06 and 07. Nebraska had a outstanding year with just the sheer volume of players that they were able to recruit that will improve the teams speed but I would drop them down as too many of the recruits are JUCO's and many of these players for some reason never seem to pan out. USC added some fine players and I really thing Turner and Jackson will be outstanding WR's but you have to wonder why they did not recruit a stud RB this year.

I agree with you that lineman are by far the best recruits to get. But I disagree with you saying Iowa has the best class. No way.

As for the star rankings. They do have a lot of merit. Higher % of 5-star recruits succeed vs % of 4-star etc. It all boils down to coaching recognizing the talent then developing it. Some players peek in high school and that is where a coach must evaluate. But the star rankings do hold merit but don't necessarily equal success. (i.e. Texas if you are talking NC's)

you have to wonder why they did not recruit a stud RB this year.

USC has not taken a RB in last years recruiting class and this years. That would be a concern for many teams but not USC. Why? USC has Bush and White returning and I don't think there is a better RB than either in the country. My opinion. Both prob. will leave after next season to NFL.

In 2 years USC will have.......

4-star Dennis (senior) combo back
4-star Washington (soph) powerback
3-star Reed (junior) speed back

Thats if Bush and White leave for NFL. Maybe 1 goes and 1 stays. Who knows. I am guessing both go but Bush would be the likely of the 2 to stay since he wants a degree and smart kid.

In next years recruiting class, USC will sign at least 2 stud RB's and USC will prob. get 2 RB's rated top 10 in the country. Everyone knows RB is the easiest position to play as a true freshman. So expect USC to sign a 5-star RB and a 4-star RB in next years recruiting class and I have been told next year their are a ton of great RB's to choose from. 3 years ago USC signed 3 stud RB's in same calss (Bush & White top 10 and Washington top 15) Kinda hard to recruit a stud RB this year with Bush and White being your starters. Carroll wanted a stud (Gwaltney) or nobody. He ended up getting nobody.

Gwaltney would have secured the RB position for the future but not getting him is not big loss for USC.

WR Turner is alread in and he is suppose to be clone of Mike Williams. Jackson is iffy between USC and CAL. I really really want this kid. He is super fast and was the best WR in all star game and USC does not have a WR like him (pure speed) on the roster. Unless you count Bush as WR.

LSU has only 12 signees ( plus 2 grey Shirts) thus far, but I am sure glad Ryan Perriloux is one of 'em;) :weed:

You all know these recruiting sites give pts for # of commits. So LSU with only 12 commits will get penalized. Thats bogus. They also put more stock in QB's and RB's which is bogus IMO as well. So if a team doesn't take a QB or RB, they will somewhat get penalized.

Look at QUALITY vs QUANTITY!

Then you have your real recruiting rankings.

# 5-star
# 4-star
# 3-star
# top 100 recruits

Then the average star ranking.

AM's class aint all that. They have a bunch of JUCO's and lower rated guys. Did get a couple studs and one they stole from OU and one from UT. They have sheer numbers but still getting beat in Texas by OU and UT for the top talent. But certainly Mack's worst class yet and he got played like a fiddle by Perrilloux. These punks are now acting just like the pros.

Iowa had a great recruiting class. They got a steal getting QB Jake Christiansan here in my hometown of Lockport,IL. he is a great QB and is very very patient in the pocket. Kirk has really been pushing for recruits here in the Chicago area.

THE NATION'S TOP 10 CLASSES

According to recruiting analyst Tom Lemming

1. Nebraska: Huskers signed 12 high school and eight junior-college All-Americans.

2. Tennessee: Vols landed nine top-100 players, more than anyone else.

3. USC: Pete Carroll signed five of the nation's top 16 prospects.

4. Michigan: Will Kevin Grady beat out Mike Hart next season?

5. Oklahoma: Two late signees, DT DeMarcus Granger and DB Reggie Smith, boosted Sooners' stock.

6. Iowa: Five Chicago-area stars head Hawkeyes' best class in 30 years.

7. Texas A&M: TE Martellus Bennett is Aggies' top recruit.

8. Georgia: Bulldogs signed four top-100 players.

9. Florida State: Led by WR Fred Rouse and RB Antone Smith, Seminoles came on strong at end.

10. Virginia Tech: DB Victor Harris is the class leader.

In my opinion, USC has the #1 recruiting class and Rivals has USC ranked #1 but neither do Scout or Lemming (who is a joke anyways). Scout and rivals are better sources than Lemming.

If you base your rankings on QUALITY, then hands down USC is #1. If you base your rankings on QUANTITY, then TN is prob. #1. USC signed 19 players vs TN 27 players.

According to Scout.com USC signed 7 5-star recruits vs TN signing 3. Thats sick! USC signed 10 top 100 players vs TN 8. CAL signed more 5-star recruits than TN with 4 and that was the highest # after USC. Congrats to CAL! So USC signed twice as many 5-star recruits than anybody in country that are going to a team that was already more talented than any team in the country. Who woulda thought CAL would take more 5-star recruits than Miami, OU, FSU, TN, Texas, etc.

USC average star ranking is 4.21 vs TN 3.63. HUGE DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY. Yet Scout ranked TN #1 and USC #3. Makes no sense when you compare the data but I guess quantity means more than quality. Funny thing is USC's star ranking goes down when they sign a 4-star recruit vs any other teams ranking goes higher when they sign a 4-star recruit. So how come USC is not #1? Guess we will see it on the field!

TO show why Lemming is a freaking joke, he has Nebraska #1 when they only signed 1 5-star recruit and only 2 top 100 athletes. NU average star ranking is 3.2 vs USC 4.2. :mj07: Thats a #1 ranking? Nebraska wouldn't make my top 5!

Good luck to anybody here who can make sense of these rankings. I am using these "recruiting experts" data that "they" supposedly use to judge rankings. Bias anyone? :)

Congrats to LSU for signing a great class with such few rides and new coach. Iowa and Nebraska did fantastic jobs especially Nebraska who really needed to well in recruiting. Although JC players are quick fix but it will bite you back down the road. USC John Robinson used JC players to get USC in Rose Bowl and win it but then it killed USC later on. Congrats to FSU for being ranked outside the top 20 on signing day to close out on the big time recruits and end up in the top 5. Very impressive!

Thumbs down to ND for a piss poor recruiting season. Thumbs down for Miami for a down recruiting year by their standards. I think they didn't take a QB, RB or WR. I think they only have 2 scholarship QB's and their offense is the greatest. The biggest thumbs down goes to Auburn finishing with a #22 ranked class after finishing the season undefeated. Only signed 1 top 100 and 1 5-star recruit AND finished with star average 3.1
