Hartford +2-: weird sandwich game for the midshipmen - they've been off for 12 days before this game on exam break (which is no joke at a service academy) then they'll be off 8 days for the holiday. that's a tall order for a team that is winless this year away from Annapolis, and favored to boot, an unfamiliar roll for navy. true, Harford ain't all that much (pomeroy #323) but they are 2-3 @ home, with wins over Dartmouth and Niagara, a comparable team to navy. home dog it is for early action.

let's call this play what it is - I'm off today for the holidays and this is the first action out there so i'm on it like a rat on a cheeto. not only playing on a bad team but I'm off my first losing day posting this week, going 1-2 tuesday, winning the top play on ecu but losing the two undercard plays. caveat emptor.

thanks diz, always nice to bag that first one of the day. time for a couple more:

mercer +2: those of you who keep up with me year to year know I'm a southern conference fan and keep up with most of the teams. mercer is one of my favorites - like the program, like their coach bob Hoffman, hell like macon. the bears are decent but have struggled a bit with turnovers and shooting. but they have a great home record, and are 4-1 @ home this year despite being 5-6 overall. lasalle doesn't really play great defense, and they don't force that many to's. mercer has an sos ranked 21st thus far so they're not too outclassed by the #104 ranked explorers.

unc-g +12-: don't look now but the Spartans look to be legitimate contenders in the socon this year. they're off to the best start in program history and have won 8 of their last 9. 2 of their 3 losses were to wake and Virginia. what's impressive is you read down their roster and you see guys with pedigrees from places like word of god and fork union. these guys can hoop and should stay within reach of the Hoyas.

etsu -3: reading all over the internet that this line is begging for Tennessee money but not sure if that's the case as I figure this line should be -5 or -6, as the blue raiders are a better team than the vols at this point. and the books don't really have to entice Tennessee action as they're claiming the majority of the action now. the vols haven't beaten anyone of note, and they haven't anyone on the road. buccaneers are another contender for the socon crown this seson, with only losses @ Dayton and unc-w. this game is the vols' fourth straight away game and, coming right before the xmas break, you have to wonder if their desire will match etsu, who have never beaten their in-state big brother. they've never had a better chance than tonight.

w carolina +10-: it's not like I think western is a good team - they're not - but this is just a bad spot for the visitors. they just lost @ lsu Saturday (we played against them there also) and afterwards they traveled straight to western where they've been since. now Cullowhee is lovely this time of year but I doubt its where a busload of college kids chomping at the bit for xmas break want to be. these are two pretty good defensive teams, and the low total suggests to me that double digits is too many points.
