denver post--

Avery Johnson, is expected to make his ninth start of the season in place of point guard Nick Van Exel, who isn't expected to play because of inflammation in his left elbow. Johnson averages 8.7 points and 4.8 assists while ranking third in the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.86-to-1). The 36-year-old had 21 points and six assists in 32 minutes Tuesday against Boston. Rookie Kenny Satterfield and swingman George McCloud also are expected to receive minutes at the point.

Forward Antonio McDyess, who has been on the injured list all season since knee surgery, is not expected to play tonight and is listed as game to game. While it's possible he could be activated during the four-game, five-day trip, general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said he thought McDyess needed more practice time but left the decision up to him.

from memphis paper

Jason Williams, Stromile Swift and Brevin Knight did not practice Wednesday for the Griz. Their availability will be a game-time decision. But it is unlikely Williams would suit up because he hasn't practiced in two weeks. If Knight is unable to play, rookie Will Solomon is a likely replacement although Shane Battier could play extended minutes at the point.

Grizz signs Perry
The Grizzlies began looking for backcourt help after Knight suffered a sprained right foot in Tuesday's loss to Houston. Knight was unable to practice Wednesday and will likely miss games.
Williams already sat out seven games after having ingrown toenails removed from each foot. His return is uncertain.

Grizzlies general manager Billy Knight called Elliott Perry - a Memphis native - a natural fit.

"He's such a class guy and he's right in town," Knight said. "We were looking for someone who had played point guard so (head coach) Sidney Lowe can conduct the team the way he needs to. He needs a veteran guy to run things. . . . You have to do something."

Denver @ Memphis

Denver @ Memphis

I once heard a trend that if a point guard is out you should play the under. In this case it seems their are alot of point guards out.

I think when you look at trends for New Jersey you have to consider this a much better team than they have had over the last few years and I really like them tonight to get a big win over Detroit but that is just my opinion.

nets---

from nj online
He doesn't know how it happened, but Kenyon Martin hurt his right wrist in the second quarter of Tuesday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The forward hurt it badly enough to attempt just one jump shot in the second half and to have the wrist X-rayed immediately after the game.

Kenyon Martin's right wrist remained sore on Wednesday, but his health may not be the Nets' chief worry. Keith Van Horn and Todd MacCulloch had what was basically a day off when each player's respective foot pain -- yes, plantar fasciitis was used to describe their discomfort -- proved too much to deal with. But, like Martin, both Van Horn and MacCulloch are expected to play tonight. Martin's injury was diagnosed as a bruise although the forward said yesterday "it still feels like it's broken."

the nets have not lost 3 consecutive games yet this yr--
