This was by far the worst weekend in Atlanta since Freaknik. I didn't really know anyone cared about NBA All-Star weekend adn frankly I don't care to ever see these fans again. Our town is trashed!!!!!!! These people have to be the most disrespectful, ignorant, uncivilized people I have ever seen. Sometimes I wonder why I waste my time trying to get people (both black and white) to be more tolerant of each other when both sides seem to continue to make their own cause weak. The only difference is that when the racist pig portion of white society come out, they get protesters, picketers, and the media all over them. This helps weaken their cause because it shows how ignorant they are. But what I saw this weekend tested even my tolerance. Complete lack of self-control and respect for order was a constant. The difference is that the right wing group does not (can not) set up pickets and protests to bring attention to it. The city was gridlocked due to the fact that no one looked to see if lights were red... they simply pressed forward--sliding doors open on minivans with people hanging out daring anyone to say anything to them. This is bullshit! One girl was quoted on the news in as giddy a voice as could be, "This is great! It's just like Freaknik!" WTF is that?

This is my plea (along with the phone call to the city today) for Atlanta to NEVER host the NBA All-Star weekend again. I don't care to ever see this contigincy again. I only pray that my initial thought that this is the minority being represented is correct. If not, I am simply wasting my time trying to press racial equality forward. I also would like to hear from any african americans on this board with their opinions on this matter. I don't know what to think right now, but my current thoughts are not what I agree with.

Sorry for the rant.

He is not crying.....He is making a statement... and I understand where he is coming from.

In Toronto every summer Caribbana (social gathering event) occurs, where over 1 million people come visit Toronto to celebrate, but HOLY SHIT you should see the mess after the 3 day party is over.

When the Pope visited this past summer, the city was still nice and clean even though 3-4 million people came to Toronto to see him.

IT IS FRUSTRATING

I would consider it a privlege if my home town got any type of all star weekend, i wouldnt be crying like a little girl about the city being a little dirty. This guy obviously doesnt like the NBA in general.

As for the Pope and Caribanna....thier 2 completely different event's and again i ask the question...who the f*ck care's if the city is a little dirty for a couple day's, you're ass is sitting at home on the net anyway's.

ITS CALLED RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY!!!

But dawgball, you have to also understand that by looking at the demographics of NBA fans, whenever you have many young people in a town for a weekend of celebration, it is expected.

Cheers

Montreal's 5-day forecast:
Tue
Feb 11 Partly Cloudy 5?/-6? 20 %
Wed
Feb 12 Light Snow 12?/-8? 40 %
Thu
Feb 13 Partly Cloudy 9?/-12? 20 %
Fri
Feb 14 Mostly Cloudy 9?/3? 10 %
Sat
Feb 15 Mostly Cloudy 25?/0? 20 %

Host an All-Star game? Are you kidding me. Move to a city where people actually walk and live outside and then, maybe you'll understand. The crowds that come to some of these events aren't always welcome. The economic benefit is lost with additional police presence, additional clean-up and lost of production of all people who live in the city due to traffic tie-ups.

Move to city that has liveable weather and expirece the event before you gudge someone else as you sit ON YOUR ASS BEHIND YOUR COMPUTER.

Not sure where the little boy comments are coming from, but that is okay.

It's not like I don't like to see big events come to Atlanta becuase I know the additional revenue helps keep our taxes down. But I would rather pay additional taxes than host another event like this past weekend. If I did only sit behind by computer on the net all the time, I wouldn't have any complaints about this now would I?

I, for one, stand for people taking responsiblity for one's actions. The group of people that came here this weekend have zero respect for others and seemed to take pride in that fact. I'm not just speaking of the aftermath. I was in the middle of some of it since I live right in the middle of the most active part of the city. That being said should state that I like a little chaotic behavior--people enjoying our city and the things that go along with it. I do not however endorse a complete lack of compassion for your fellow man.

On to me liking the NBA. It's not my favorite sport, but I do not have anything against it. I like team sports.

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution (local paper)

"Just before Lenox closed, someone threw fireworks into the lobby of the valet parking area. The pop-pop-pop sent people rushing toward mall exits. A glass door at the Peachtree Road mall entrance was broken. "--so this means I don't like the NBA.

"Police also arrested three women at Lenox who got into a fight after one of the women began stripping. They were charged with disorderly conduct. "--once agian reflects how I feel about the NBA? I am talking about the people that came. Phillips Arena only holds 20,000 people and there were approximately 160,000 people that came in. I'm guessing that there were some people here that didn't have tickets and didn't care that the NBA All-Star Game was here. Just ruin it for everyone else then.

"It was fun while it lasted," (Chris King, 23, Newark, NJ) shrugged, a video camera in his hand. -- this sums up what I am talking about. Destroy with complete abandon until you are forced to leave. And this is considered fun?

"Three men also broke into the Gap clothing store at Underground Atlanta just after daybreak Sunday and, according to store officials, made off with more than $60,000 worth of All-Star jackets. Atlanta police Sgt. John Quigley said an officer came upon the men, but they got away in a car." -- Thanks for coming. See you next time.

Once again, this is just a little rant (or crying, if that pleases you better), but I don't see why people have to destroy something to feel like they are having a good time. There are places that need to allow this stuff to happen to attract people (Panama City, Daytona Beach, etc.), but Atlanta is not one of them. I don't think we need their business if there is no respect while they are here.

A little trash would not be a concern. That happens every Friday and Saturday night.

Still crying like a little girl,

I luv the NBA

I luv the NBA

And have for years but isnt it RACIST???????????
Yes I am Mexican so shouldn't the Mexicans be allowed to have atleast 1 Mexican on every team????? Thats the way life is in our working world that you must have so many minorities on the work force. Do I think the Mexicans can play with the caliber of the NBA...HELL NO, but as much as I here all this crap about you must hire a certain percentage of minorities is ridiculous....but my statement holds true....yes I understand we do have a Korean and such other minorites from overseas on teams but if you really want to cry racism and saying we arent offered the jobs around here (african americans) then think of how some minorities feel when their population is non existentin the NBA or even non existent in the real working force. I guess the "crying boy shit" really sets me off . The jobs are given to the ones that are most qualified and who are the best...I dont give a damn if its the NBA, head coaching jobs, marketing for Bankone or a landscaper...you must prove yourself. And dont give me this crap that whites are given racist priority....Ms Black America pagent....Black History Month....Black this black that.....so your saying we are prejudice cause we hold a Ms America( It really would be it it was called Ms White America) Am I prejudice...HELL NO....but the next time I hear a minority say the only damn reason he got the job was because he was white....ohhhhhhh shit move on...then stop crying and go get another job...Does racism exist to an extent it still does but...it only exists more when you make it a factor

Point well taken Dawgball. I also can't understand people's desire (need?) to destroy something in order to have a good time. I'm a 23 year old guy, and I would imagine a large portion of the NBA's fan base is my age or close to it. Sometimes I shudder to think what this country will be like when I am middle aged and my peers are in positions of authority and are making important decisions. It just often seems like my generation flat out doesn't care about anyone or anything other than themselves.
