To start with, I will admit I am biased.. on the other hand, I've had 15 years of basketball officiating experience at both the high school and college level....
But what I saw tonite at the Bucks-Heat game - well, let's just say, I'm still in shock...
4 seconds left, Eddie Jones has the ball with the Heat down three... takes 4 dribbles to his right, stops and holds the ball with both hands for a second, realizes that he has no shot, then takes one dribble to his left, and lets a shot fly - Heat get the rebound, and then hit a 3 to tie the game... Obvious double dribble to anybody that knows anything about basketball... I can tell you, being an official for 15 years, you don't miss something that obvious - even if you aren't looking, one of the other 2 officials sees it and calls it...
Then with 3 seconds in OT, Ray Allen rises for a jumper - the chick ref (Dee Kantner - who has no business being an NBA official, except the NBA is trying to draw female fans).. calls a foul that occurred a good 2 seconds prior... the replay clearly shows her fist going up (to indicate a foul) while Allen is in midair, shooting the ball...now being an official, I realize there is a split second delay between seeing a foul and raising your fist - but not 2 seconds (OK, a second and a half)...
The double dribble call was the most amazing non-call I've seen in all the years I've watched hoops (probably 33), and the 15 years I've officiated....
The NBA has gone the way of the WWF Wrestling... I wonder how the NBA is going to explain this one away????? This was certainly not a judgement error, as it was obvious, and the 3 officials were obviously in on the fix, as none of them were going to make this obvious call....
No wonder the NBA is losing ratings - it's a joke....
