Me and a friend have played both Madden and NCAA ever since the games came out.

We are pretty even in ability, I would say over the last few years he's slightly better. We play fairly realistic football with good strategy and "gentleman's rules" when necessary (such as not looking at the other team's plays). We know each other's tendencies and adjust, etc. so its pretty competitive games.

We have decided to play a "game of the week" every week and bet accordingly. We play 6 minute quarters with no deliberate clock running until under 2 minutes of each half.

We are not allowed to change playbooks and we flip a coin before games to see who controls what team.

Game #1 NC State @ South Carolina*

To begin the game and most of the first half, South Carolina simply could not stop State's running game. It wasn't anything fancy, just some great blocking by the Wolfpack and also some poor tackling. South Carolina stayed in the game by passing and was down by 7 at the half.

Down 7 midway through the 4th, Gamecocks muffed a punt and ended up with the ball at their own 2. SC played it safe by running, but on 2nd down got tackled for a huge safety.

At the end, SC cut the lead to 8 and did not get the onside kick. State won 44-36 in a high scoring affair.

Basically, NC State would have probably won without the safety and either way, they covered very easily.

NC STATE +13

Week One Loss...

Not as bad as score indicates. State looks terrible, but several injuries including early QB injury.

Should have been 0-0 a lot longer than it was. State should have run out clock at end of half. Why they threw at all inside their 15 the way the game was going, early in the 2nd half....not smart at all. Defense was playing a great game.

Those 10 points changed the way SC could play and it led to an easy cover.

It was 13-0 and State was driving with good field position, and another bad snap cost them 30 yards and had to punt giving SC great field position.

I can't say I was on right side, but State could definitely have covered this game.

Game #2 Ole Miss @ Wake Forest*

Defense and field position dominated in this one. Wake had a really good opening drive end in a very short field goal that was blocked. Way too many blocked FG's on this game, even with some modified rules. After the first possession it was a very boring half. 0-0 at halftime.

A couple field goals in the 2nd half puts Wake up 6-0. Anyone's game for the most part but Rebels seemed really slow on offense. Deacons broke a long run late for a TD and missed the 2-pt conversion to go up 12-0.

Miss. had a chance for a backdoor cover but fumbled a punt inside of one minute and Wake picked it up and ran for a touchdown.

Final score....Wake 19 Mississippi 0

A lot closer than the score indicated but not closer than the experts think.

WAKE -7

Well, 0-2 so far. I'm up 23 units for the season and that includes being down 3 1/2 units on these games lol. Might be the last week if I lose another one...

Week #3 Michigan @ Notre Dame*

Notre Dame muffed the opening kickoff, leading to an easy Michigan score. Not much else to say about Michigan. Notre Dame won 62-14.

Irish dominated in every facet of the game and won easily.

Notre Dame ML (+115)

On the game....Irish had no problem running the ball and that set up the pass. It was an ass-kicking and luckily I was controlling the Irish!

Go Irish! Go to hell michigan!

Game #4 Florida @ Tennessee*

This was an irritating game to play. Early fumble on kickoff leads to Fla's 2nd TD. Later, Florida is up 14-0 inside Ten's 5-yard line. Tenn forces a fumble. Tennessee makes it 14-7 and is on Fla 5 with 2 seconds left in the half.

Settles for FG, but there is a holding penalty and half ends, 14-7 (half CAN end on offensive penalty). Tennessee ties it at 14 and has a nice drive. Huge run called back for holding and has to punt and from there Florida takes over.

Final score 35-20. Refs were all over Florida after a great comeback.

Florida -7 1/2, reluctantly

Game #5 2-2 so far

Illinois @ Penn State*

Penn State's defense dominated and Illini added a late FG to cut it to 2 scores in a last ditch attempt to make a comeback, then missed the onside kick and Nittany Lions ran out the clock.

PennState 26 Illinois 10

PennState -15 1/2

Also, we avoid looking at the lines if at all possible until the game is played. Had no idea we were so close to this line. In-game we were guessing probably around 10-11....

Navy* @ Air Force

Air Force took a 14-7 lead and was the better team. Navy took a bad sack and had something like 3rd and 35. No pressure whatsoever, the line was looking for someone to block, and Navy throws a 45 yard TD....and somehow there was HOLDING. I would love to find that dirty ref.

Changed the game a lot, AF got a TD before half and went on to roll, 31-7.

Air Force -4
