Surprised none of the tv buffoons noticed this:

There are 3 Big East teams in the South. They arent allowed to do this unless a conference has 9 teams and the BE has 8.

I'm not surprised the buffoons missed it. reminds me of a few years back when no one noticed that BYU was put in a Friday/Sunday bracket.

Perhaps it changed but it was always a rule that teams from a conference cant meet until the elite 8. WVa and Marquette could meet in a Sweet 16 game as well.

Even if somehow the rule recently changed it still makes no sense to not spread the teams out unless you are trying to guarantee a conference team to advance.

It is a rule. It is done so that conferences foes have less of a chance to knock each other out before the regional finals. It was put in so that there would be no conference biases in that one conference's teams selected were loaded in one region, lowering the chance of that conference having multiple Final Four teams.

The only rule that ever existed re: seeding was the first three teams from a conference had to be put into different regions. That's it.

You are simply wrong. No way to be nicer about it. If it changed it changed when the Big East went to 16 teams but it absolutely was a rule prior to that. In fact under the prior rules unless you had 8 teams in the top team from the conference could not have a fellow conference team in its bracket.

I know as a fact that a rule was in place that conference teams are not to meet until round of 8 unless 9 teams from the same conference make the field. I am not sure if the rule has been eliminated........

Bold print below provides some leeway for the commitee........


There shall not be more than two teams from a conference in one region unless a ninth team is selected from a conference.

Conference teams shall not meet prior to the regional final unless a ninth team is se-lected from a conference. If the committee is unable to reconcile the bracket after exhausting all reasonable options, it has the flexibility to waive this principle to permit two teams from the same conference to meet each other after the first round.

To recognize the demonstrated quality of such teams, the committee shall not place teams seeded on the first five lines at a potential ?home-crowd disadvantage? in the first round.

Understand that but they essentially screwed the Big East in two regions.
