Ohio -7.5 over Marshall: The Bobcats have had two tough losses to open the MAC season and need this one bad. This game and next game at NIU are very winnable and then the schedule gets brutal. The big 3 (Wiliams, Green and Troutman) are playing well and their second half play at Ball St. has to be encouraging. Look for OU to gradually stretch this one out to a comfortable double digit victory. Of course, I may have just selected another game were my selection runs out to a big lead and then pisses it away in the second half:)

Thanks, I thought about quitting but I remembered one of your famous lines:

And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior firepower and superior intelligence. And that's all she wrote.

With that sort of inspiration, how can I go wrong?

Tuesday:
UWGB -10 over Cleveland St.: The Vikings have been basking in the glow of their big win against YSU that snapped their conference losing streak. They are now focused on breaking their conference road losing streak. Well, it's not going to happen here. UWGB is rolling towards a big matchup this weekend with UWM but they will not look past CSU. The Phoenix have great balance, play solid defense and are well-coached. The Vikings have Omari Westley and...uh, they have a one-game winning streak. Seriously, Cleveland St. turns the ball over too much and opponents shoot 47% from the field against them. UWGB will cover the double digits easily.

West Virginia -14.5 over Marshall: I have this one at -19 so laying only 14.5 is definitely a positive bet. I'm sure the line is this low because of the Villanova whipping and then the next game ugly win against St. John's. The Mountaineers confidence was rocked by Villanova and the shaky win against SJ was expected after that. But now they should be ready to roll again. I see them shutting down Marshall right away and getting plenty of easy baskets on TO's. This will snowball as their confidence returns and result in a blowout. I normally don't lay this kind of chalk, but I think Marshall is in a very bad spot here and gets a beating.

Leaning towards Ohio St. but think the line might move in the Buckeye's favor so I'll wait.

One more:
Ohio St. +8 over Wisconsin: I like what I have seen out of the Buckeyes so far. They play hard and can be very physical. Wisconsin should win the game but the pace will be slow enough for Ohio St. to cover the 8.

Results: 1-2

Wednesday:
Minnesota -9 over Purdue: I think the line is this low due to Purdue's recent performances against Wisconsin and Illinois and because they haven't been beaten by more than 11 except for two games. But they are going on the road for the first time in over a month to face a team that is shooting the ball very well and has won 9 in a row. Minnesota has also become a solid defensive team. They are in the NCAA Top 30 in steals, blocked shots and rebounding margin.

CMU 14 over Miami: This is more of a numbers play. It is alot of points for a team like Miami to cover and CMU's ability to score makes it more unlikely.

I actually graduated in December of 1984. I took classes over a couple of summers because BG was transitioning to semesters and the conversion was going to screw me. Me and my roommates were the originators of Manville Madness and got sued by the city when it got out of hand and a bonfire somehow got started in the street. Those city officials didn't have a sense of humor.

Those years were great at BG for athletics. The hockey team won the national title, the football team was very good and the basketball team was awesome (David Jenkins, Colin Irish, David Greer,...).

I am going to go out on a limb and say that BGFalcon probably didn't have to ask for directions to any of those establishments in Wood County. Basketball was king when I was there (class of 97) but a lot of that had to do with the fact that football and hockey were awful in those days. The teams with Antonio Daniels, Kline-Ruminski, Larranaga, Komives, etc...were fun to watch. Plus the Jesuits from Toledo could destroy beer when they put their minds to it. This team doesn't have near the talent, but they are a covering machine. I think it might come to an end today. BG is a 4-point favorite, facing the best team they have played this year.
