I?m a bit tired of prefacing every ND pick with the fact that I?m not a homer because I'm usually not :SIB There just hasn?t been a good reason to go against the Irish in any game this year. But, historically I?ve been against ND ATS more then I?ve been for them, but with the way the line?s reacting, I doubt I?ll be against them in the next 3-4 weeks.

There has been ups and downs this year watching ND?s frosh and sophs get experience, but the one constant is that Top Jimmy?s improving every week. He learned how to turn his game on against SDSU, learned how to manage a game against Michigan, learned how to attack all shotgun against MSU, learned how to check down against Purdue and learned how to audible into 3 TD?s against Stanford. His stats this year:

DATE OPP RESULT CMP ATT YDS CMP% LNG TD INT RAT
9/6 San Diego State W 21-13 21 34 237 61.8 38 3 2 137.68
9/13 Michigan W 35-17 10 21 147 47.6 60 2 2 118.80
9/20 @Michigan State L 23-7 24 41 242 58.5 30 1 2 106.41
9/27 Purdue W 38-21 20 35 275 57.1 38 3 0 151.43
10/4 Stanford W 28-21 29 40 347 72.5 48 3 0 170.12

He's improved every week statistically except for Michigan when he was just managing a game in a blow out. His intangibles have improved more than his statistics. They've gone 10 quarters without a interception and 9 without a turnover. 4 or 5 of the 6 picks that have been thrown went to Kumara and his soft routes and he's having a hard time getting back on the field.

North Carolina presents a test for the Irish offense due to the fact that they can get pressure with 4 and still drop 7 which has caused them to be able to pick off 12 passes this year. The Irish line should be able to hold them as just like the QB, their pass blocking is improving every week. Addiitonally, The Tar Heels defense has also faced the 108th (VaTech), 106th (Miami), 83rd (Rutgers) ranked offenses this year plus a UConn team that moved to an untested QB and McNeese State.

While the offense will have a WTF game at some point this week, I'm hoping it's not this Saturday.

A Stanford Olineman told the press that they were going to be able to "gash" the Irish Dline and for most of the first half they did. Much of it was due to an unbalanced line that ND didn't adjust for, but they actually made a halftime adjustment and Stanford's run game was stopped cold in the 2nd half.

While the special teams on Carolina and the takeaways have limited the amount of time and plays that their offense is on the field, they have been outgained in every game except the one that they won and have relied on big plays to score. The Irish secondary is absolutely the strength of the defense and the teams that will have success are the ones that move the chains and take the underneath stuff in the passing game and the Tar Heels haven't used that philosophy all year.

Go Irish!! Beat Carolina!!

. . . and when Wisky does lose, it ain't by much. I can see a 3- or 4-point loss, but 7-, 10- or 14-point loss here in this spot doesn't seem likely
