Eastern Kentucky Scouting Report
Kenpom.com ranks the Colonels as the 163rd best team in the nation, but they are not to be overlooked. Eastern Kentucky?s victories have each come against fairly weak opponents, but they have hung around in games against quality teams. The Colonels trailed a NCAA Tournament-caliber BYU team by just two points at the half before falling to a double-digit defeat. They also played Valparaiso, a 10-win team, to a narrow 6-point loss.
Eastern Kentucky?s 78.1 points and 15.7 assists per game averages rank top 50 nationally. Only one school, West Virginia, averages more steals per game than Eastern Kentucky.
On the flip side, the Colonels neither rebound well nor present a prominent presence in the post. Their leading rebounder, 6?8? senior Eric Stutz, averages an unimpressive 5.6 rebounds per game.
Senior guard Corey Walden is Eastern Kentucky?s best player and certainly one to watch. The 6?2? guard averages 17.2 points per game, including a 33-point outing in a victory over Southern Utah earlier this season. Walden also averages 4.1 assists, 3.0 steals, and shoots a respectable 35.7% from beyond the arc.
