Outstanding advice SixFive. If times are tough, she shouldn't be expecting too much anyway. Later on down the line when the cash flow is better, you can make a larger purchase. I know I set my goal that on my 10th anniversary I would get my wife a Rolex. Just a personal goal, nothing else. At dinner that night, I presented it to her catching her totally off-guard. Her smiles that night made it worth waiting for. She kept asking, "wanna know what time it is?". Most couples I would think are just trying to get their careers and families started and on the right path the 1st few years. She should realize that!

There are alot of things that he can do without spending much $$$$$ no one said he has to break his bank.............I think its great that he actually cares enough to ask an oppinion some of your comments (UGHHHHHHHH) Girls love sentinmental stuff..................A nice jewelry box for example...........have it wrapped up real nice and inside enclose a note "HONEY HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! LOOKING FORWARD TO MANY MORE YEARS AHEAD,SO I CAN FILL YOUR NEW BOX SORRY TIMES ARE TOUGH RIGHT NOW...................XOXO"
You see to the female this is something that over the years as times are more abundent with the cash flow, and you can afford nicer things like jewelry she will have the box and all of the pieces you have bought her in 1 place. As the years go by she will have a story for every piece of jewelry she recieves...............and the new jewelry box will be the start!
DO NOT- go and buy a jewelry box from Wallmart I'm talking about a higher end store they run anywhere from $100 and up and if you can match it to your bedroom furniture thats even better + you can have it engraved (HAPPY 1st ANNIVERSARY xoxo) if of course this fits into the budget............

a little tip-when buying a card READ IT front to back I can't eventell you how many cards I've gotten from RAYMOND that read "FROM ACROSS THE MILES" or "WISH YOU WERE HERE" and of course you all know we are married ! and were never apart LOL

Definetely start out small the first year whether you can afford it or not. If you get her something big or expensive the first year, it will be that much harder to build on in years to come. Your quote "but we bought a house that the princess had to have" sounds scary to me and she might be the type that has to have something to show off. Try and think of something that she does for you that you really appreciate and buy her something associated with that. Woman love to feel appreciated. Make her feel like it was the best thing that ever happened to you by marrying her. Hope she is not the type that has to have the materials things to make her happy. BTW, SixFive gave you some excellent advice.
I don't know the dynamics in your household but how about a bundle of flowers from the local grocery, a homecooked gourmet dinner that you burned your fingers preparing, a nice long soak in the tub with candles or fragrant oils burning, a glass of wine in hand and having her back washed and her legs shaved by your tender hands? Add in a nice back and foot rub afterward with her favorite lotion with nothing expected of her in return.
Of course, if she's a materialistic princess, this will be wasted on her but if she loves you and understands the financial situation, it will be appreciated and cherished!

Excellent advice for the 'first' anniversary TBone. I would have to agree especially w/the wife being Asian, i.e., they love Gold Jewelrey, plus the note is a good touch. AND I didn't know you were married to Raymond, TBone. Aside to Private Petey-Concrete Business, Gambling, Philly- Don't p*ss them off or we'll end up next to Jimmy Hoffa And Scott: I get little time off as it is not to mention working rotating shifts. Will you quit entering everyone in your contests cause Nobody will post anymore. Finally, a massage is another very good idea-IMHO. I get them several times a week and they NEVER get old. Among other 'things' it puts me right to sleep.

i like the romantic night idea, va nurse, i might combine that with the jewelry box....thanks, any more ideas are welcome....also, I don't want to make the wife out to be a materialistic princess, but she does like the finer things in life, our financial situation is new to her, she grew up in a very comfortable environment....she's having trouble cutting back, but she is doing it... she is also very understanding of the situation and as long as she sees I put effort forth on the big day, she will be very pleased...I tend to over dramatize the princess aspect....I am very sarcastic in nature, although I don't think many guys could put up with the things I do

sorry VA nurse just my opinion:shrug: If you go that route then you would have to do a little more than that like ummmmmm leaving a note on the door where she comes in from work, and a trail of flowers(BABY ROSES would work) leading all the way to the bedroom up the stairs all the way (NOTE EXPLAINING FOLLOW THE FLOWERS LEFT ON THE FRONT DOOR) when she gets there to the bedroon have them on the bed along with candles burning everywhere,bottle of wine and your set:moon:another way to make a statement make a sign A BIG ONE and hang it the night befor somewhere on her way to work,then when she gets to work have a huge bouquet of flowers delivered there. There are a ton of things you can do that you just might have to go out of your way a little that won't cost you much money

if you are able to spend about $200, as you said, i would take her to a nice romantic restaurant(french), give her one white rose, one yellow rose, & one red rose. these mean friendship, love, & passion. then i would give her a set of earrings($75-$100).
then be prepared when you get home (lol)!!
