Hey Guys.....I'm trying to fill out my local pool sheet and I'm a little confused when I get into the last few groups. My confusion is mostly the result of the top 35 rule, and which guys will be guaranteed spots in the first 10 races. I got stung on that last year.
Any input would be appreciated if you guys have a chance.
GROUP - Vickers 83 (Red Bull), Reutimann 44 (Waltrip), Allmendinger 84 (Red Bull), Waltrip 55 (Waltrip), Mayfield 70 (Haas)
GROUP - Smith 01 (DEI), Carpentier 10 (Evernham), Villeneuve 27 (Davis), Hornish Jr 77 (Penske), Franchitti 40 (Ganassi)
Thanks,
Sharky

They changed the ruling on these points. It`s only the first 5 races that there locked in.

In your first group only Jeremy Mayfield is locked in.

In your second group,Sam Hornish is in, he inherit the points from the #2 Penske and also Franchatti is locked in.

Hope this helps,gl on your pool,

lugs

Everything Lugs said is dead on.
That being the case, I would still take GROUP 1 with Vickers and crew.
The Toyota's got better as the year went on.Look for better results this season.

Agree with kegray, Vickers looks the better of the choices in the first group.

Who would you take in the 2nd group?

Thanks Guys....I was leaning towards Mayfield in that group, but I like the Vickers idea....The only thing that concerns me is that if Mayfield has a couple of good races in the first 5 he will still be in while the others may have to qualify on speed?
In the next group, I was leaning towards Franchitti because I think these open wheel guys will be okay in Ganassi's cars? As a Canadian, I need to be a Villeneuve fan, and he got a few truck/ Busch starts under his belt last year, but I'm still not sure about his outfit?

Here's the other groups while we're at it. I have some leans (in italics), but open to suggestions if you guys a strong opinion on something:
GROUP 1 - Gordon 24, Johnson 48, Stewart 20, Dale Jr. 88
GROUP 2 - Kenseth 17, Hamlin 11, Ky. Busch 18, Edwards 99
GROUP 3 - Bowyer 07, J. Burton 31, Ku Busch 2, Harvick 29
GROUP 4 - Truex 01, Newman 12, Biffle 16, Mears 5, McMurray 26
GROUP 4 - Labonte 43, Kahne 9, Montoya 42, Yeley 96, Sorensen 41
GROUP 5 - Ragan 6, E. Sadler 19, R. Gordon 7, Gilliand 38, Blaney 22
GROUP 6 - Rudd 28, Menard 15, Petty 45, Riggs 70, Nemechek 78
(plus the previous two groups)

Thoughts are appreciated!

I like your first three picks

I`d rather have Truex than Biffle unless your trying to go against the grain abit.

Nah, I was just thinking Biffle was sort of sub-par last year and might bounce back a bit this year. I like your idea with Truex in that he's now the stud in the DEI stable (actually he was last year as well), whereas Biffle probably files in behind Kenseth and the 99 at the Roush camp, if that has any bearing.

Rather have Menard than Mayfield got to take DEI over Hass racing.

Rudd not in the 28 Travis Kvapil is
Petty should have hung it up few years back.
Nemechek better driver than the ride he`s in.

Kegray - you like Blaney???
That might be good if you think he'll be okay, as most will be on Sadler...........

Last season numbers were very close to same.
Blaney 33 starts avg. finish 26. Completed 92% of starts.
Sadler 36 starts avg. finish 25. Completed 95% of starts.

Blaney was better on avg finish when he finished races.
The Toyota's struggled early in the season as well.He got much stronger as season went along while the Dodge's got weaker.

Can you change driver on a week to week deal because I would take Sadler 100% for the 500.
More experience factor.
I am a big Blaney guy since I saw him quit often on the World Of Outlaw stops. He is a great guy seeing him interact with fans in the pits at WOO events.

That said rumors are the Dodge will be back this season.Kurt Busch and Montoya may be strong.
I am not a Montoya guy at all though.

Sadler has been strong in testing thus far.
