# 1 thing to do is get a book with 10 cent lines. I think your best bet is either 5 Dimes which has overnight lines of 5 cents or Bet Jamaica. Consistently betting into a 20 cent line is a poor proposition for the long term player.

# 2 thing is to realize if you're conistently playing favorites -150 or greater that you need a minimum of 60 % winners at -150 to break even.

make sure to know the rules also before starting:

=====

Winners and losers are official after five innings of play unless the home team is leading after 4-1/2 innings.
If a game is called, or suspended, the winner is determined by the score after the last full inning (unless the home team scores to tie, or takes the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in which case the winner is determined by the score at the time the game is called.) Monies will be refunded if the home team ties the game and it is then suspended. Events will not carry over to the following day (unless otherwise specified). We do not recognize protested games, overturned decisions, etc, for wagering purposes, and all wagers must go the day scheduled, otherwise there is no action and all monies are refunded unless Vegas rules deems an outcome final for wagering purpose.

Rules for the 1st 5 Innings (1st half)
- Starting Pitchers are automatically listed. If either listed pitcher does not start, wagers on the first half (5 innings) will be canceled.
- Bets are based on the score in the first 5 FULL INNINGS
- Once the first 5 Innings are completed, Bet stands weither the game is completed or not.

Rules for Run Lines and Alternate Run Lines
Starting Pitchers are Listed. the game must go nine innings (8-1/2 if the home team is ahead) to have action.

* Action - team against team, regardless of the starting pitcher.
* Listed - both specified pitchers - if starting pitchers are not exactly as listed on wagering display board, and/or your ticket, your wager will be deemed "no action."

* If a game goes past 9 innings and is not completed (ie. suspended, curfew, rain delay, etc.) there is action on the game total and runline wagers.

Where it is real F ing COLD
Do not try to be an action junkie and this is coming from an action junkie.. When I limit my plays to 1 - 2 games I do solid.. When I play more than 3 then I tend to give away profits,

try matchbook, too. i use 3 books and shop around when i make my picks. matchbook a lot of times it'll be -151/+150 if there's enough money on the game. great for baseball since it's ML and not spreads. of course, the RL is offered, as well.

only think about mbk is that it's tough to get money there. i just transferred to them from 5 dimes. 5 dimes is easy to deposit to.

advice for betting? wow. where to begin? there are some good baseball guys on here. i'd read and participate in the discussions. you'll learn different people's playing styles, systems, success, etc.

good luck to ya, man. welcome to the board.

If you are willing to put the work into it, there is no better sport to bet than baseball in my opinion.

There are not many sports were you can go 4-6 and make money in like baseball, unless you are named Dominic that guy can make money with losing picks and buying points.

There are 256 regular season nfl games in a year, while there are 2430 regular season baseball games, if you are patient do the work baseball offers many more chances to make $$.

It is a great sport to bet on. Just don't lay too many big Favs. They will eat you up. I try no to go -160 , every once in awhile I go higher. I like totals too myself.

Good luck

Tons of good advice here, but this statement is paramount.

If......... you put the work in, follow the league day in AND day out then there is no reason that this sport shouldnt be the most profitable one by far just based on the sheer amount of opportunities to win money.

How To Calculate For Favorites
I define a favorite as a team with a negative spread like -105, -150, etc. Take the absolute value of the spread and divide by itself plus 100. For example, for an -150 team, take 150/250 = 60%. To pull even, our -150 favorite must win 60% of the time.

How To Calculate For Underdogs
Take 100 and divide by 100 plus the spread. For example, a +150 team, take 100/250 = 40%. To pull even, our +150 dog must win 40% of the time.

List of Break Even Percentages

-200: 66.7%
-180: 64.3%
-160: 61.5%
-140: 58.3%
-120: 54.5%
+100: 50.0%
+120: 45.4%
+140: 41.7%
+160: 38.5%
+180: 35.7%
+200: 33.3%
