After winning it all in 2001, Belichick Patriots fell last year to 9-7 and spent the Holidays at home watching the playoffs. Belichick knew that his defense was the problem as they allowed 22 points per game, five more than his Super Bowl winning defense.

Belichick needed some new blood so he went out and brought in some stud defensive free agents. The investment has paid off, as the Patriots are now a force on defensive as they are allowing 15.9 points per game. As a result, New England is 12-2 and tied with Kansas City for the best record in the AFC. The Foxboro bookies are broke as the Patriots have been killing them having covered 12 of their 14 games.

The Patriots are on the road after back-to-back home wins. Last week the Pats made Jacksonville their latest victim as they defeated the Jags 27-13, covering as 6-point favorites. This game versus the Jets presents a very good situation for the Patriots, as they are an awesome 11-1 ATS versus a division opponent after a SU win over a non-division foe.

New England defeated the Jets in there first meeting this season 23-16, just covering as 6-point home favorites. Can the Jets get revenge? Not sure as the Patriots have played very well in New York the last four years leaving the Meadowlands all four times with ATS wins.

The Jets have QB Pennington back, but it?s too late to salvage their season. New York comes into this game at 6-8 and out of the playoffs for the first time in three years. They can get to the .500 mark with a win here and in their finale at Miami.

Last week the Jets shutout the Steelers in the cold and snowy conditions in the Meadowlands. This presents a good situation for the Jets, as they are 17-6 ATS as a dog off a SU win. They?re also good streak stoppers as the Jets are a perfect 6-0 ATS against teams off back-to-back SU wins of 10 or more points.

This game presents an interesting situation; how many times since 1989 has a team been a home dog after posting a home shutout win? If you guessed zero you?re correct.
After we researched this situation and found no active games, we took a look at how just home teams do after a winning at home and holding their opponent scoreless. We found that these home teams playing outstanding defense perform very well. Since 1989 they are 14-5 ATS. In case you don?t feel like doing the math, that?s a winning percentage of 73.6%. This one just might be added to our Super System list.
