I have been trying out a new method (for me) for picking point spread winners the last few weeks, and it has been doing well. It is a numerical system where I assign points to each team based on four categories:
1) point spread
2) generate my own power rating
3) home field
4) average power rating of opponents played
I have found that by sticking with the home teams that rate favorably, I get a higher winning % versus playing road teams. I also have narrowed it down further by selecting teams with a .500 or winning record. This helps in getting a manageable number of games to play too. Here are the games I am playing today, followed by games that rated high using my system, but I am not playing for one reason or another.
Pittsburgh -5.5
Arkansas +8.5
Notre Dame -7
Lousiana Tech -2
North Carlolina St. +7
Stanford -3.5
New Mexico -4.5
Tennessee -7
Other Games
Penn St. -3
Miss. St. +24.5
Ohio +14
Western Michigan +19.5
Duke +25
Wake Forest +13.5
Arizona +22.5
Cinncy +6.5
Baylor +7.5
I am still working on whether it is beneficial to rate the plays that score higher in my system with higher unit rating or just play them all the same.
Good Luck
