Greetings lads,

I am waaay over due for a new computer and was going to purchase one this weekend..

I used to keep up with computers and what not about 5 or 6 yrs ago but now i have no idea what is out there..

I was planning on spending about $1,500 but looking at how fast these things are now days i dont know if i need to spend that much??

I am not tranfering digital video. I dont download or burn movies, and i save my game playing for my playstation 3

I use the computer for email, web surf, IPOD and ITunes, of course MS Office, and occasionally I like to play around with Photoshop. All of these things i do on my current computer and it is 5x as slow as the cheapest computer out there...

So help me out here boys.. Should i get a machine for 500 bucks? It seems it will do everything i need it to do.. What do i get for an extra 500?
Whats the right PC for me

Thanks

gib

Buy an Apple Imac (laptop) or a Mac mini if you want a desktop. Right around $1000-$2000 for the imacs, less for the mac mini ($800) but you'll need to buy the monitor seperate, keyboard/mouse, printer, accessories seperate. There is a world of difference between apples and pc's. Apples are great and nice working machines, pc's are shit. Go to your local apple store.

Go to dell.com take their latest and greatest deal and upgrade to the 22" monitor. Make sure you get a Nvidia graphics card. Then I will look for and try to post you a coupon on here for dell. Do not buy any anti virus programs or MS Office I will mail you a CD for free. DO NOT BUY A MAC. DONT SPEND 1500..You should easily get out of the door for 750. I will look now. I do this for a living.

When you go to buy the monitor, consider the possibility of hooking up your PS3 to it. I have Gateway and got the 24 inch LCD HD monitor, hooked the PS3 up right next to the tower and we are in business. Think about it.

You absolutely don't need to spend $1500, for what you need.

But if you can afford to, buy a DELL STUDIO HYBRID and spend the rest on a 32" LCD HD TV.

A fine suggestion but my P3 is hooked to my Samsung 52in LCD!!! (the love of my life) and not going anywhere...

How is your gateway?? I worked for them in college and they were very solid.. Not sure how they are now?
