Nice little ML win yesterday with the Cowboys.......but today's a new opportunity.
Stanford / No Carolina Over 54......6 units *OK, your probably wondering how I just sat on the podium and pronounced all PAC 12 teams completely inept in the Bowl season, and you'd be right, however, the Cardinal is my one exception as they usually bring their A game to the Bowls (3-1 in last 4.... loss to Mich St in Rose). Also, the PAC 12 has won 3 of the last 4 Sun Bowls..... So, who am I to try and fit the square peg in a round hole... er, you get my point.
Honestly, I really don't have a clue who is going to win this one, but I do know that if you think the Trees will be handicapped without their Heismanless McCaffrey then you will be surprised by the #2 RB Bryce Love who averages 7 yards a pop and had 664 yards w/2 Tds taking over for Christian when he was injured. Also, QB Keller Chryst is a mobile, dual threat athlete who is undefeated since taking over play calling. The O Line is physically dominant (will be the toughest challenge UNC has faces) and they are smart (no dummies allowed in Palo Alto).
So why won't I put my money on Tar Heels? UNC has lost 3 of its last 4 Bowls......and 6 of 8. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence. In fact, their last 3 Bowl games were ugly blow outs. I do fear that Tar Heels might not be too happy about this game, but, it will provide QB Mitch Trubisky another stage to flaunt his wares to the NFL community if he is so inclined. The kid is just what the NFL looks for, a 6'3" 220 lbs with mobility, size, field sense, and Pro style skills. He's very accurate, hitting nearly a 70% completion rate with 28 Tds and 5 more on the ground... He has only 4 Ints.
Tar Heels have some good WRs and I expect a lot of passing tomorrow. Tar Heels aren't a running team, and have no Rbs with 1,000 yards. They also limit turn overs and do a great job holding on to the ball (4 turnovers against Vtech was in a deluge)....
Stanford will try to manage the clock and run the ball. They will be somewhat effective and should be able to put up some points against Tar Heel D. My biggest concern with Stanford is that it's last 5 games were against teams that failed to go bowling. The Stanford O struggled against Colorado 10-5 loss (and look what those Buffs did tonight)... They failed miserably against Washington and Notre Dame (although those Defenses are a step up from Tar Heels. In fact, UNC run D allows 200+ yards rushing 8 times, and in each of the last 4 games
I believe these two can get to the Over with Stanford running the ball and Tar Heels passing all over the field. Good luck if you choose a side.. RR. .
