Only day game on "Getaway Thursday" & I think the Mets +1.5 runs has the best value in this match-up. I know New York sucks, losers of their last 6 games, but they are still a Major League ball club. Who would have given the Astros a chance yesterday against the Tigers, I had Detroit -1.5 runs, but we saw what happened. A quick glance @ the starting pitchers would say the Mets don't stand a chance but a closer look gives New York a reason to believe. Here are some numbers to consider:
Jon Niese(Mets)-Not having the best of seasons so far to say the least but has pitched well against the Cardinals in his career. He is 2-1 with a 1.83ERA in his 4 starts verses St Louis while the Mets are 3-1 when he starts. The Cardinals are 4-4 against Left-Handed starters this year hitting just .219 and scoring just under 3 runs(2.9) per game. Think Niese gives the Mets a fighting chance.
Adam Wainwright(Cardinals)-Took a "No-No" into the 8th inning in his last start against the Rockies so he may be set up for a let-down today. Got rocked for 11 hits & 5 runs in the start before that against the Milwaukee Brewers. Take away the Colorado game stats & Wainwright has given up 52 hits in 47.2 innings of work this year. He has struggled when facing the Mets losing his last 3 starts with a healthy 9.92ERA in those games. Wainwright is just 1-3 with a 7.11ERA in his career starts verses New York.
Think the Mets will show a little fire today trying to avoid getting swept in this series. David Wright is due for a big day & Rick Ankiel, who hit a 2-run Homer last night against his former team, should also be motivated. St Louis had only 6 hits last night & scored the Go-Ahead Run on a wild pitch in their 4-2 win. Tempted to take the Mets +200 in a game I think they can win but getting +1.5 runs should be a winner in what I hope is a close one.
