2001 NFL Regular Season: 34-33-8
2001 NFL Post Season: 14-1-0

2002 NFL Exhibition Season: 0-0-0

I've been carrying this here card of games in my pocket for weeks, and the time has finally come to pull the trigger and kickoff the 2002 NFL season.

San Francisco (-3') for 1*
I don't expect the Giants to play with one whit more of emotion or intensity in tonight's opener than the 49ers bring. I'm on the fence a little about both teams' prospects for the season, but I see more playmakers and fewer questions on the 49ers side. The dynasty is a thing of the past, but the 49ers are solid as a road favorite. The books I use hung a nasty number on this game and then doubled their price from last year to buy that 1/2 point, and that's the story there. It's a good matchup, but I find enough reasons to prefer the 49ers chances tonight.

Will be adding later . . .

-3.5, again. Tom Coughlin's success on opening day looking to steamroll Tony Dungy's propensity for slow starts, all rolled into a matchup between realigned divisional foes. Be that as it may, I've had this game at or near the top of my list of plays since teams reported to camps around the league. Nothing has transpired since to shake my expectations that Indianapolis is the team here with playmakers that can deliver out of the box with bounce and poise on offense, active schemes on defense, and a measure of discipline all around, making the plays that will signal a reversal in the depth and momentum of last year's descent. Call me square.
