Gib you hit the nail on the head only thing that i watch in weather and have said it for 4 years on here is wind over 20 mph, or a frozen field and ball. It has to be a monsoon for rain to bother me because all nfl field and college fields are made for water it takes a down pour to turn a field to mud if it has the drains and sand base which fields are done over each year in college if grass and nfl a few times a year and college will fill in the bad spots , most fields can take up to 1.5 inches of rain a hour before the drains don't work and water starts to stand if it is grass and on turf or the new field turf the fields have a bigger crown then grass so runs off to side lines.
On a wet field a off player knows where he is going a deff player has to make a read thus giving adv. to the off and a big adv. if you are passing the ball the wr's can leave a db on the ground with a move because they know where they are going and db's have to back peddle or turn and run then turn and find the ball, as for the balls and the qb nfl and ncaa footballs are made to have a nice feel with water on them almost like they get sticky when moist, also balls are changed out almost on every 4-5 plays if it is raining at a good pace so people panic when the hear rain i look for dropping lines and go over, does not mean the game will win but off.has a big adv and that is why you see some high scores when it rains.
Fear strong wind and frozen field and ball , rain wet or dry snow don't worry unless it is a monsoon or a white out.
