Have no problem with this guy getting what amounts to a life sentence for the worlds largest ponzi scheme but have been thinking about the victims. It's my understanding that a lot of these people were pretty well to do in the first place and had to beg and plead to let this guy manage their respective portfolios'.

They then started banging down what 10 - 15% annual returns even in down markets. Its also my understanding that many of these victims wanted to keep Bernard their own little secret. Frankly, I can think of a lot of victims of ponzi schemes that are much more sympathetic then the victim described above. Not to say that there were not legitimate victims of this fraud.

But if your making consistent big annual profits in down markets, you have to become a little cautious. Just heard a joke on Bob and Tom this morning. This big Browns fan had Braylon Edwards number tatoo'd to his scrotum. Because he has the most dropped balls in the NFL.

Stevie, I do not disagree with the sentence, I just am looking at the victims of this scheme compared to other ponzi schemes (which go on all the time all over the world) and am saying that although these numbers dwarf all of them, there are other schemes that seem to have more sympathetic victims.

Eddie lets face it, you and RAYMOND are both handsome bastids.
..............................................................

this is what gets me about Bernie

" perpetuating the largest investor fraud ever committed by a single person, pleading guilty to federal charges that he had defrauded his investors of almost $65 billion.

with restitution of up to $170 billion. "

I love that term perpetuating a fraud. Its kinda what DTB does in here daily.

They are saying its not so bad as it seems because the people only lost the money they invested and not the money that Bernie showed they made while under his tender loving care.

Its funny when you say that the rich people wanted to keep Madoff a big secret. Instead of telling others about their good fortune, they just plowed more money into Madoff :142smilie

Fools rush in where fools have been before.

Eddie

strangely enough,i`m on the same page as edward on this one(pinch me).......to a certain extent...

i keep hearing "i`ve lost me life`s savings" when people discuss this crook....

the majority of these folks aren`t living from paycheck to paycheck(i`m being a tad sarcastic)....and if all these rich folks(most of jewish descent...don`t jump me..you guys know how i defend the joos:nono: )are stupid enough to go all in...investing everything(millions in many instances)in this private little club, then my empathy for them is tempered a great deal because it seems that they became quite greedy somewhere along the line(instead of staying cautious and smart)......

i don`t begrudge them their success....everyone should strive to become well off....

but,it sure sounds like many of these folks got very greedy.....much like many of these obama supporters that are willing to seel their soul...and their country...down the river for a freebie...

many of the women in this group that i`ve seen on television look very much alike...i think they share the same plastic surgeon,as well as the same thief...

--and your questioning it is valid--however I put up verification a long time ago when I 1st made statement--as I thought any such claims should be verified--I will put up verification again under your thread on silver star --which was quite good-thank you.

We were dropped off some distance from it and when we approached it- area looked secure as we could see company D just standing around--we got a little lax and let down our guard and crossed open road in file rather than one at a time which is custom in open spaces--that was mistake-2 of our five never made it across-our sniper Kendal and "Snuffy" Smith http://www.12thcav.us/In_Memory_viet_212_unit_e.htm

Are some of the people that invested with him going to get any money back? If something sounds too good to be true, then...

I honestly don't know what to think about this Madoff thing, other than people got excited about making a lot of money and they thought this was a guy who could make it happen. Face value, no real harm in trying it (unless you knew it was hurtful to others in making it happen) but certainly this was someone who used others money and screwed them.

Unrelated note: here was a ton of wealthy people's money that didn't create jobs, didn't help anyone, much of which was probably sheltered from taxes and none of us benefit from - and they only hoped to make more money and not help anyone else.

There are plenty of these scenarios in our country, and I have to say, I don't have a lot of compassion nor care about. Further proof that not all - if many - high earners do a lot for our country in an economic way. It can simply all be about the big money folks, too.

their money didn't benefit you?

their money didn't benefit you?

unbelievable. their money didn't benefit anybody and was probably tax sheltered so it's ok. wow i honestly can't top that statement. so if it's not your cash you don't give a shit. how could you write that? inconceivable. you have got to be a college student or fresh out. you don't have a freaking clue. i'm certainly not rich but your thought process is what ultimately is going to bring our once great country down. what if it was your jack? get in line for your f'ing free cheese.
