I saw gas here at $2.29 yesterday.

I guess there's nothing to bitch about, so no mention?

I love big oil companies!

I love George Bush!

Since we blamed them for the prices going up, I guess they are due for praise on the way down, correct?

To be fair, the employment numbers came out today, and they were worse than expected.

I think the worst news came from last month where "upon further review" there was a larger portion of the jobs lost last month outside of the hurricane regions.

Another bit of positive news is I believe I heard that the US dollar is at a two year high in strength. I will check this, though.

Don't forget the biggie---
DESPITE "unprecedented natural disasters" and "all time high oil prices."

Economic growth 3.8%, stronger than expected in Q3
WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? The economy shook off headwinds from hurricanes Katrina and Rita to grow at a faster-than-expected 3.8% annual rate in the third quarter, a Commerce Department report showed Friday.
Strong spending by consumers and the government helped power the expansion as growth in gross domestic product ? the measure of all goods and services produced within U.S. borders ? accelerated from the second quarter's 3.3% rate.

Economists had forecast GDP would advance at a 3.6% rate in the July-to-September quarter. The economy has now expanded faster than 3% for 10 straight quarters.

In its first snapshot of third-quarter growth, the Commerce Department said it could not separate the economic effects of the twin hurricanes that struck the U.S. Gulf Coast in late August and September, though it said incomes likely suffered a $40-billion blow from lost wages and rents.

Third-quarter GDP growth would have been more robust if the storms had not placed some drag on incomes.

Gas was 1.90ish a gallon here when I moved here a year ago. 2.39 this morning. So no, no praise.

Funny little trick they pulled, isn't it? Raise the prices to ridiculous amounts, then slash those prices so they aren't super high, but still well above what they'd been at, but for some reason people only remember the super high prices, so they're happy.

I was not one of the ones to blame Bush for the 3+/gallon prices in the first place, but what was the price in 3/03? Right around 1.10 or 1.15 I believe. Not sure if 2.39 is something to get excited about.

It is $2.79 (89) last I checked. When it gets in the low $2.00 around here i'll get excited. Looks like SoCal is back to being the highest around again.

Agree completely with this thread. Totally accurate by all means!

So, are you seeking praise for "them" for the prices coming down, and if so, are you admitting that it was "their" fault they went up?

How about this for a legitimate bitch? Thanks Cheney, for asking for insights from big oil and energy companies in shaping the current energy legislation that provides them tax credits and incentives that helped make them the most profitable companies in the history of the world for the last three months. You know, those same credits and incentives that would help them build refineries and increase production to help the common man in times like we just went through? Have any of them done that? If so, how many and how much production can we expect? Or have they shown us PROFITS with that money? Glad DICK could help them out. I doubt he flinches much when he hops in the back of limos and watches his driver drive by those gas stations these days.

I think gas should be at least $4 anyway. I think that's the only way to get people past the bitching stage and into actual lifestyle change and conservation. $2.29 is way too cheap.

What happened did the Chinese start using less gas? What's to praise oil; companies making largest profits in history while prices are sky high. Please explain what we are to praise?

Fvck, I'd get a chubby if it went back to around 2 bucks a gallon, but I am not happy now by any means.

Strange how threats of investigations seem to help. Lets face it guys were getting programed to like $1.90 to $1.99 as our low price from here on. We should make that some time next year with 06 a election year.

FYI

Bread just passed $3 a loaf to $3.19 in these parts. And it's taken almost 2 decades to get to this level from well under a dollar.

When does the investigation start for that?

No doubt, Joker. Gas is still the cheapest liquid other than water. Gas should be more and will be much much more somewhere down the road - with or without more drilling and refineries. It would be wise to plan for this inevitable increase rather than complain.

once again supply/demand issue.High prices force people to conserve--and refineries back in almost full production+drop in prices.
Don't think the Dems solutions of voting NOT to drill in Alaska or NOT to build more refineries had any impact--easy to sit back and whine when prices are up--but MUCH tougher to come up with solutions.

Prices here are low compared to rest of world maining because they tax the hell out of it--what would price be had Kerry got his 50 cent gas tax increased several years ago.--and a tax is constant increase with no chance of going down next month.

if you think we got it bad you might consider----take a look at impact of taxes-and remember when you vote next time who is for increased taxes and who is for tax cuts.

Tax cuts that are paid for work. Those that are pipe dreams and bring on high interest rates. Are wrong. That interest can eat your tax break up. For sure when they just raise the national dept and increase fees on other items. Believe it was Fortune magazine back May or June that showed most end up with no tax break at all.
I guess we could do like many Europe countries do. Put 2 or 3 dollar tax on gas. That would get our attention.

So, none of you Bush/Cheney supporters care to talk about the energy legislation that Cheney orchestrated to help the oil and energy companies for the last two years and into the future? You don't care to discuss the friends they helped make billions of dollars at our expense over the past few months, if not years?

DTB talks about Kerry's 50 cent gas tax, which I'm not familiar with but I don't doubt is true...and yet he is strangely silent when I ask about the energy legislation that we all KNOW has cost us money...and are you guys in cold-weather-land ready to pony up for your heat this winter?

I don't expect much conversation coming back on this issue...it is one that backers of this administration simply cannot win.

He actually did not vote to incease it because it never came to vote--however in Kerry's words--

"It doesn?t reflect my $43 billion package of cuts or my support for a 50-cent increase in the gas tax," the Globe quoted Kerry as saying.

Gas tax per states--do you see a trend here ;)

I am not sure but when you talk about gas prices in other countries is it not true that the high price is the cause of taxes imposed on gas not so much a windfall for the oil companied?
