the nba? im not an nba basher, in fact i think level of play has increased in recent years. but its damn near un-bettable.

if i paid money for a ticket to the seattle/utah game id ask for a refund.

refs have called 62 fouls in this game with 7:00 still to go in the 4th.

theyve combined to shoot 71 free throws?

the game isnt even in the home stretch yet.

not gonna say the nba is controlled, but the refs have totally taken of this game tonight. these teams are in the bonus with 8:00 to go in each quarter. its ridiculous.

Extremely aggrivating... Unfortunately it's all too frequent in the college game as well... Why can't they just call every game the same way? One game they'll let contact go, the next game fouls don't even require contact... It's really a joke.

never said that you cant profit. hell, i hate betting nba but ive been successful in the limited games that i play over the course of a week. it just doesnt interest me. there is zero consistency, and a game like utah/seattle confirms that.

the final tally:

70 personal fouls
81 free throws.

G man,
The NBA is unwatchable to me.
I dont enjoy it, the players seem not care care for long stretches
I much prefer the college game, atmosphere, and intensity.

I only check scores on the ticker (why they put womens hoops on this is beyond me. Find me one person dying for that Stanford Sam Houston score mid way in the 1st half... but there game is so fundenmentally sound .. I know I know... It still stinks.. lest I digress more)

The NBA is full of one on one dunk the ball, same thing the other end...

Maybe its me BUT you can make a buck on it....
(well I have heard you can, I always seem to lose my old school Phila jersey on it)

Just my two cents...

I don't completely disagree at all but just want to point out that Utah is far and away #1 in the NBA in committing personal fouls and Seattle is #3. The two avg out to 52 fouls a game.

Both are also in the top 10 (albeit 9 and 10) in free throw attempts per game, adding up to 53.4 FT attempts a game.

I personally think that in the NBA if you follow certain teams very closely you can get some good opportunities just by getting a feel for how that team is playing or whatever. I see you do it with Clev and YYZ with Milwaukee.

Like handicapping any sport, it's really about picking and choosing your bets carefully.

I agree and disagree. I agree about refs controlling game with foul calls. I had the under in the Orl/Phil game yesterday, and they combined for 78 free throws, 59 of which were made. It makes you never want to touch a game in the NBA.

Irony is I am making more profit in the NBA than any other sport this year. So I have to disagree with it being unbettable because once you get in the game, you learn how to read the lines better, and pick and choose your spots.

Look at GSP, he makes profit year after year, and he rarely takes more than 3 picks a night. You just have to pick your spots, or just bet the Spurs and the under and you can't lose!

Doesn't really matter how many fouls are called, 'cause most of them can't shoot from the stripe anyway!!! :cursin:

...Seriously, it's a reason I believe betting totals is an absolute crap-shoot.

I have total respect for anyone who can consistantly win on NBA totals.

to elucidate:

didnt mean for it to come across as saying that you cant win money in the nba.

my main point is that i cant see dropping SIGNIFICANT money on an nba game.

i definitely agree about picking and choosing spots. i just dont think there is EVER a play in the nba that is worth hammering.

i bet the nba for about 1/4th of what i play on a college game.

myadidas -- thanks for that info on utah and seattle. thats very interesting, and definitely would not have figured those two teams to so high in fouls for the season.

youre right -- i basically just pick and choose my spots with cleveland and have been very successful. i guess i just dont have the sanity to withstand the ebb and flow of an nba game. very volatile game.

thanks for all the comments. interesting thread.
