That is a great point about UM leading at the half in the last three games in South Bend......in '98 (brady's first start) and '04 they had "great" drives that stalled and had to settle for field goals every time....in '98 they missed a chip shot right before the break if i recall.....a bit more red zone efficiency and Big Blue probably wins those games going away.....ND, however, came out blazing in the second halves of both of those contests, had wrestled complete control of the games before the third quarter ended and michigan really had no chance to win either come crunch time.
If Michigan and LLoyd can't out adjust either Davie or Willingham during intermission, how can anyone expect him to counter the immortal Weiss?
I dont buy that line of thinking so much.....in the end, this is a strict historical play in my book....a complete underdog series.....one of three series in which i always, ragardless of spread, reputation or state of team always play the dog, the other two being Clemson-Georgia Tech and NC State-Maryland.....LY, went 2-1 and went 3-0 in '02, 2-1 in '03 and 3-0 in '04.
Last time Michigan was an underdog at all in this series was 1994 and conveniently, that also was the last time Big Blue won outright in South Bend......ND had not won in Ann Arbor since 1993 until last year, would not be shocked if Michigan returned the favor.
The previous comments of the 'under the radar team' coming through big time with a win in this series is dead on accurate....pretty much describes almost every match-up in this series since 1978!
