is so horrible for this country and the world. Ruining the future of billions and all. Soon enough his second term will come to an end.

Outside of Hillary, who IMO will just lock up the election for the Republicans, who is the next great leader of the free world to replace him?

I'm just inquiring now (of the many Monday morning quarterbacks in here) so I can pay a bit more attention to the positions of those names brought up.

Heard off the radio Biden is taking a look see.

I don't see how you can figure that Hilary would be an easy out for the Republican Party, I believe that she would be an extremely formidable foe with a huge bankroll and the most popular man in the Democratic Party as her husband. If the economy continues to tank and Iraq is still a mess then more than likely the Republican's will be forced to run someone whom has the ability to distance himself from Bush, and this eliminates quite a few of their stronger possibilities. Personally, I would like to have the opportunity to vote for McCain, but he will not court the religious right and be at their beck and call like Bush, so he will lose some of the radical right vote but he could pick up a ton of Independents like myself. If the Republicans toss out Bill Frist as their choice then I would say they instantly become the underdog due to his voting record and how he will be linked to all the failures of the Bush Administration

Tank in the sense that it is floundering.

More unemployed, underemployed. More living without health care insurance, more living on the brink with credit cards and 2nd mortages. Many hanging by a slender thread hoping the housing bubble doesn't burst.

But then I'm just a doom n gloomer - really everything is just dreamy.

Dr. Freeze,

Perhaps in your area the economy is strong, but I ca nassure you that here in Ohio the economy has tanked since Bush took office. I do not blame him, as we have the worst Gov. in the country and he has helped the downward spiral. Perhaps you do not read the public opinion polls that currently have Bush running at a low 40's rating on his handling of the economy which is the lowest of his tenure.

public opinion polls have little to do with how great our economy is

i never see a newspaper without many very well paying posiitons open

for those who choose to not be flexible, and would rather dwell in pity and hope for the government to provide them a job or protect their job, i have little pity

Ocelot,

You hit the nail on the head, as this is exactly what is happening!!! People are becoming frustrated with Bush's economic policies and I think the folks whom are underemployed are a serious number that will definitly turn out to vote. People that are underemployed wil lwant change and they will not tolerate anyone associated with this failed administration and it's spending policies that are putting our country into a terrible debt. The health insurance problem has yet to reach a boiling point, but by 08 it's going to be huge as most employers begin to either shed benefit plans or up the ante on the employee to assume more liability.

Look at our standard of living. Has it ever been better in any country in the history of the world? NO.

Pick up a Sunday paper in one of the major cities in the country. Do you see a shortage of well paying jobs? NO.

if we would close that f'n border down south we would improve the healthcare industry immediately. we should limit immigration to a ceratin number a year. furthermore, you should be forced to learn english before you are granted a work permit.

i have to admit that i don't pay much attention to the unemplyment rate or anything else.....i look at my position...if i'm happy where i am financially....then the economy is good.

i just read in friday's usa today that home values have more than doubled in some states in the last 5 years & the median price for existing homes nationwide topped $200,000 for the first time.

that doesn't sound like the economy is floundering to me.....

people should stop complaining how bad it is...& do what is necessay to succeed.....if a person can't make ends meet on his salary then they should either put more hours in at work, get a second job, or cut corners......nobody is going to help you so you have to help yourself to succeed......

Forgetting the fact that her and the ol man have more skeletons in their closet than anyone else, and that act has been done before, she is extremely "polarizing" and would be a great source of motivation for many to go against, regardless of party.

I think McCain's 15 minutes are up. He doesn't bring the energy. He's also a known commodity and there really isn't a ground floor clamoring for his run, even with all the bitterness of the current administration and 2 party system.

This guy I don't know enough of.....

"If the economy continues to tank "

MC You need to start reading fincial and economical publications instead of spending all your time on moveon.org and NYT.

Economy equals housing-employment-interest rates-inflation-market conditions ect--

Weve had the best ever in 3 areas despite horrific effect of 911--huge expenditures on war--once again I don't think GW is or any administration directly responsible but to say economy has tanked
is truely "liberal logic"

How is the real estate market sky-rocketing helping the AVERAGE person? So their home values go way up...now how are they going to capitalize on that? Yeah, they can sell their home for a huge profit and then what? Well, most people are going to have to BUY a new home to live in. Now are they going to pay an inflated price? Of course they are!

UNLESS of course you are a doctor or a lawyer and you have more than one home. Well then yes, you can sell property and make a killing.

MOST people that are struggling from paycheck to paycheck trying to save money for their kid college can't accumulate investment property. More likely they are borrowing against the equity of the home they are living in.

I can increase the HELL out of my standard of living by borrowing up to my eyeballs though more and more people are doing so just to maintain their current standard of living.

Meanwhile, oil is going to 60 a barrel.

Remember how rich everyone thought they were during the stock market bubble? Same thing happening in real estate now but stakes are even higher since you have to have somewhere to live (street doesn't count). You could sell your stocks and exit the market. Kind of hard to exit the housing market.

Here is how outrageously bad the attacks on our living standards and jobs have gotten! Do your own internet search for "SeaCode".
This is NOT an urban legend or hoax.

"Outsourcing" ? which has become synonymous with sending American jobs to India or China ? could soon mean foreign workers sleeping in ships just a few miles off America's coasts.

In an outrageous affront to U.S. labor laws, a California company plans to anchor a 600-cabin cruise ship just beyond the three-mile limit off the coast of El Segundo, near Los Angeles, and stock it with foreign software programmers.

The company, SeaCode, will seek to classify the workers as "seamen," avoiding U.S. payroll taxes and the need for immigration visas.

Programmers from places like India and Russia would work 8-hour or 10-hour shifts, either day or night. Take-home pay: About $21,500 a year.

Compare that to the salary of an American programmer ? median salary for programmers is around $60,000, and those with extensive experience can make $125,000 or more - and U.S. companies like SeaCode could reap a windfall.

SeaCode says it will charge clients the same rate as firms in developing countries. The company says the significant benefit of having the low-cost programmers near the U.S. is that clients will be spared from long flights to India and other far-off destinations to check on projects.

By using foreigners working on boats, SeaCode also believes projects will get done more quickly as their programmers toil both day and night. "Try to get American software engineers to work at night," SeaCode co-founder David Cook told Forbes magazine, explaining his delight in the outsourcing scheme.

But Jack Martin, special projects director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, complained: "All it would do is be a further contribution to eroding the job opportunities for skilled American workers."

SeaCode is close to making an offer for the Carousel, a ship now sailing around the Canary Islands. The vessel would dock in Long Beach once a month to take on supplies and dispose of waste ? isn't that nice? But legally speaking, the SeaCode scheme could face stormy seas.

"It's not my prerogative to tell them to take a hike," said El Segundo Mayor Kelly McDowell. "I'll leave that to the Coast Guard."
