David Wells apperently reported in Todays Long Island Newspaper he is asking for money for his appearence in his 5 2/3 of an inning in relief in Detroit. Wells has a 130,000 Contract with George Steinbrenner that he will recieve $135,000 per start from his 7th to 17th starts. This will be Wells 10th Start. He says he isn't going to make a BIG deal out of it BUT he wants the Money!
Sosa will PLAY today as he expected to apeal the 8 game suspension HOWEVER no apeal has been filed YET.
STATS
The Cubs are batting .285 against LEFTIES this season. Wells holds a WHIP of 1.06 is ranked 5th is that catorgory. Yanks have scored 38 runs over his last 5 starts.NYY is 7-3 in Wells' last 10 starts. Yanks are 21-10 on the road this year.
CHC is 3-1 in Zambrano's last four starts. CHC is 3-8 in Game 1 of a series after win. Zambrano has a WHIP of 1.22. He has allowed 58 hits in 73.2 IP. Moises ALOU and Sosa are both PROBABLY for todays game. Alou having problems with his leg. Grudzielanek is questionable due to personal reasons. The cubs are 6-0 in EXTRA innings.
MY THOUGHTS
I feel Wells will be trying a little to hard for Revenge factor and will have other "things" on his mind. Wells has the capability to either throw a PHENOMINAL game to show Yanks they do Need him. OR He can give easy pitches and say NO MONEY No Play..I get PAID anyway..AGAIN Just a THOUGHT, does not have any outcome in my decision. With Torre being threatened and Steinbrenner wanting PRODUCTION I think the OVER is the PLAY here. The Lineup will shake this up a BIT and as GREAT as Zambrano has been this Yankee lineup will get some runs against him. I believe we may see EXTRA innings or a BLOW out.
