Washington Times kicked off Obama plane for finale
The Washington Times
Friday, October 31, 2008

The Washington Times, which has covered the Barack Obama campaign from the start, was kicked off the Democrat's campaign plane for the final 72 hours of the race.

The Obama campaign informed the newspaper Thursday evening of its decision, which came two days after The Times editorial page endorsed Senator John McCain over Mr. Obama. The Times editorial page runs completely independent of the news department.

"This feels like the journalistic equivalent of redistributing the wealth, we spent hundreds of thousands of dollars covering Senator Obama's campaign, traveling on his plane, and taking our turn in the reporter's pool, only to have our seat given away to someone else in the last days of the campaign," said Washington Times Executive Editor John Solomon.

"I hope the candidate that promises to unite America isn't using a litmus test to determine who gets to cover his campaign."

The Times formally protested the decision, noting that it has one of the top 20 largest newspaper Web sites in the country, distributes its print edition in the key battleground state of Virginia, and has had its stories repeatedly cited by Mr. Obama and other Democrats throughout the campaign.

"Sen. Obama himself demonstrated he appreciates the importance of The Washington Times and its news coverage. In June, he wrote a letter citing a Times' investigative project that highlighted government mistreatment of our veterans. Sen. Obama requested an investigation by Congress and the administration, both of which confirmed the problems and led to corrective action at the VA. In his August acceptance speech, Sen. Obama also prominently mentioned our interview with Sen. Phil Gramm and the now infamous comments about a 'mental recession' and a 'nation of whiners'," wrote Mr. Solomon in an e-mail to Obama campaign manager David Plouffe.

Times reporter Christina Bellantoni, who has covered the Democratic campaign since 2007, is being asked to leave the campaign plane starting Sunday. In defending its decision, the Obama campaign said it respected Ms. Bellantoni's reporting and simply ran out of seats on the campaign plane for the finale because of high demand. It also noted that the Obama campaign is allowing some news media critical of the Democrat to travel, including Fox News.

"Unfortunately, demand for seats on the plane during this final weekend has far exceeded supply, and because of logistical issues we made the decision not to add a second plane. This means we've had to make hard and unpleasant for all concerned decisions about limiting some news organizations and in some cases not being in a position to offer space to news organizations altogether," wrote Obama campaign Senior Advisor and Chief Communications Officer Anita Dunn in an e-mail.

"There are simply no more seats on Senator Obama's plane," she added. "There are press seats available on Senator Bidens plane for travel this final weekend and The Washington Times is encouraged to include our vice presidential nominee in your coverage plans for this final stretch."

just looking for fair and impartial reporting maybe.

Lets face it, that reported would have her ears open to anything that might be juicy enough to give her paper that would make Obama look bad.

She should go over to the McCain plane. He will probably just kick her in the c.... instead of off the plane.

Fact of matter liberals don't care about finding the truth-they'd rather be spoon fed what they want to hear--

They are all for it--don't like tough questions--most
-want to believe the GD america rev rant was staged
--and that Ayers was casual acquaintance
--Rezco just happened to buy lot next door on same day O buys the house
--whens last time you ever heard anyone make reference to his past voting record or accomplishments
--why hide thefamily photo's
--in fact don't believe we've had one refer to him by correct race yet.

He's what they want to believe he is and don't want anyone distorting their preception--whether it be true or not.

one what ?? refer to him by correct race & why does it matter what race he is ??? This is America right ? good question, why do you think he is hiding the family photo's ? By all accounts , obama is a good father and husband... do you want to hold him responsible for his birth fathers life ? If most Americanas were as productive as obama and the rev wright, we would be closer to what America should be.

Bush and Cheney just totally got away with that and without any explanation.

Joe Conason's Journal

The truth about how the White House helped the bin Laden family flee the U.S. finally comes out. Will the "liberal" press pay attention?

Sep 4, 2003 | Up, up, and away with Prince Bandar
Americans who want to understand an important aspect of what has gone wrong with the Bush "war on terrorism" must read Craig Unger's stunning investigative story in the October issue of Vanity Fair. He provides a definitive account of how members of the bin Laden family and relatives of the House of Saud were spirited out of the country on private aircraft during the days following the Sept. 11 attacks -- when almost all aviation was prohibited.

Boarding a series of flights that crisscrossed the country, from Florida to Kentucky to Los Angeles, Washington and Boston, they were permitted to leave on orders from the "highest level" of the United States government -- without any real interrogation or investigation by the FBI. As Unger points out, at least two bin Laden male kinsmen had been probed for connections with the U.S. branch of the World Association of Muslim Youth, a suspected terrorist front group.

Why were individuals connected with the prime suspect in the worst crime in American history allowed to leave the country so abruptly? Unger examines the role of Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the suave Saudi ambassador and longtime crony of the Bush family, who apparently used his influence to win the release of as many as 140 of his compatriots, including the bin Ladens.

Former National Security Council counterterror chief Richard Clarke says that the decision to let the Saudis leave was made with FBI approval. "I asked [the FBI] to make sure that no one inappropriate was leaving. I asked them if they had any objection to the entire event -- to Saudis leaving the country at a time when aircraft were banned from flying." But the FBI's spokesman on counterterrorism issues told Unger: "I can say unequivocally that the F.B.I. had no role in facilitating these flights one way or another."

Determining who is telling the truth about the fleeing Saudis isn't easy. With the sort of candor that has become its hallmark, the White House is still denying that any such flights ever occurred. That denial is simply exploded by Unger, who interviewed a former police officer hired to work security on the private jet that took several Saudis from Tampa, Fla., to Lexington, Ky. (where another group of Saudi royals had been buying horses).

With outrage that any American can share, Allan Gerson, an attorney for the 9/11 victim families who are suing the Saudi government and the bin Laden interests, wonders why some obvious questions weren't put to the passengers on those planes before they were released.

"They should have been asked whether they had contacts or knew of any other Saudi contacts with Osama bin Laden," said Gerson. "What did they know about the financing of al-Qaeda? What did they know about the use of charitable institutions in the U.S. and elsewhere as conduits for terrorism financing? Why was the Saudi government not responsive to U.S. pleas in 1999 and 2000 that they stop turning a blind eye to terrorist financing through Saudi banks and charities?" Yet as Dale Watson, the FBI's former counterterrorism chief admits, "They were identified, but they were not subject to serious interviews or interrogations."

Among the various explanations for this undue leniency, Unger examines certain ties that bind the Bush family to the bin Laden clan and the Saudi hierarchy. He writes: "Vanity Fair has learned that as senior adviser to the Carlyle Group, the gigantic private-equity firm, former president George H. W. Bush, who has long been a close friend of Prince Bandar, has played a key role in raising millions of dollars from Saudis for a Carlyle investment fund."

While Unger acknowledges that there may have been valid reasons of state to allow the Saudis to exit unmolested by law enforcement, he leaves the final comment to John L. Martin, former national security chief in the Justice Department. "What happened on September 11 was a horrific crime. It was an act of war. And the answer is no, this is not any way to go about investigating it."

Unger reveals much, much more -- and we shall see whether the "liberal" American media arouses itself to expand on his findings. So far, the first media outlet to pay any serious attention to the Vanity Fair article was the Edinburgh Evening News. (Yes, the city in Scotland.) But this morning, the New York Times suddenly appears interested, too.

This hectic life
As promised, here are a few of the events on my current schedule, but please remember that change remains the only constant. On Friday afternoon I will appear on WNYC radio's "Leonard Lopate Show" (93.9 FM, 820 AM in the New York metropolitan area or www.wnyc.org), at around noon Eastern. That evening I will be signing books at the Upper West Side Barnes & Noble, located on Broadway and 82nd Street, at 7:30 p.m. And later still, at 10 p.m. Pacific time, I'll be on the Bernie Ward Show (KGO, 810 AM in San Francisco or www.kgo810am.com). Next Monday evening at 7 p.m., I will return to Olsson's, my favorite Washington bookstore, at 1200 F Street N.W., to read and sign copies of "Big Lies."

I don't think the rev wright's GD America was staged.... I also believe that the rev wright will stand by his statement and he unlike like bush/cheney served our country honorably and has earned the right to say what ever he wants as an American against his country..... I think some Americans would agree that God has Damned America under bush/cheney...http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-74356

What is his correct race?

you tell me:shrug:

Black muslim father/white hippy mother

--per census bureau--appears white may be correct?

Question: How will data on race be presented?

Answer: Data on race will be shown using several different options. For example, in the Public Law 94-171 (redistricting) file, data will be shown for 63 racial categories. These include White alone, Black or African American alone, American Indian and Alaska Native alone, Asian alone, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone, Some other race alone and 57 possible combinations of the above six categories.

In data products where it will not be possible to show 63 racial categories, such as the Demographic Profiles, data will be shown for seven mutually exclusive and exhaustive categories. The seven categories are White alone, Black or African American alone, American Indian and Alaska Native alone, Asian alone, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone, Some other race alone, and Two or more races. The two or more races category represents all those respondents who reported more than one race.

A third option provides data about people who reported a race either alone or in combination with one or more other races. For example, the White alone or in combination category consists of those respondents who reported White, whether or not they reported any other races. In other words, people who reported only White or who reported combinations such as "White and Black or African American," or "White and Asian and American Indian and Alaska Native" are included in the White alone or in combination category. Using this option there are six alone or in combinations groups: White alone or in combination; Black or African American alone or in combination, American Indian and Alaska Native alone or in combination, Asian alone or in combination, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone or in combination, and Some other race alone or in combination. If the number of people in these six categories is calculated, it will equal the total number of responses and will generally exceed the total population.
