Recent polling is trending toward DEM Barack Obama. Not only are some states like Virginia and North Carolina tight, but check out the new numbers out from Qunnipiac Polling Institute for the huge swing states of Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania.
Florida: Obama leads McCain 47-43 (May Quinnipiac, McCain led by 4, Obama +9)
Ohio: Obama leads McCain 48-42 (May Quinnipiac, McCain led by 4, Obama +9)
Pennsylvania: Obama leads McCain 52-40 (May Quinnipiac, Obama ledby 6, Obama +6)
Now, other pollsters, such as Rasmussen and Survey USA will likely release similar polls, state wise this week, so we will see what those numbers say, but Quinnipiac has tremendous respect, especially for their polling in huge swing states. The Quinnipiac poll for Ohio seems to confirm an earlier poll out by Publlci Policy Polling that showed Obama with a 50-39 lead in Ohio. No, Quinnipiac is not showing a 11 point lead, but they are showing a 6 point lead and both polls are confirming that Ohio is trending to Obama.
These numbers are show what we here at 3BD have been saying, don?t count on Pennsylvania being a swing state. Given its recent voting history (Kerry, Gore, Clinton, and Clinton), the fact that Pennsylvania is among oneofo the top states effected by Iraq, the fact that the PA economy is lagging, and the fact that the Governor is Edward Rendell (like him or not) and Rendell will be able to use that vaunted political machine it used for Hillary Clinton in the primary, Pennsylvania is a blue state and I don?t see this even approaching Battleground status. Recent polling has proven it. Out of the last 6 to 7 PA polls, Obvama has leads ranging from 6 to now 12 in PA.
AS for Florida, I thought this was a bit of a shocker, showing Obama up 5. I think the more McCain hits that oil drilling, the larger that lead may grow. It may be a popular item for McCain to spout off nationally, but he may lose Florida because of it. This is the first poll to show a shift to Obama in Florida. Also gives credence to the argument that the media portrayed problems, such as hispanics voting or Obama, were just plain wrong.
UPDATE: American Research Group releases its Florida poll that indeed does confirm that Florida is now for Obama. The ARG poll registers an Obama Florida lead at 49-44.
