By the end of the season, it is doubtful that the Ohio Bobcats will need a statement win to make a bid for a tournament. After defeating the winless Coppin State Eagles squad 80-37 on Friday though, Ohio is itching for some challenges.

The Bobcats (4-3) travel to Maryland on Thursday to play one of college basketball?s big names.

The Terrapins (6-3) began the season winning six of their first seven games, but lost two in a row. Playing schools named Syracuse and Purdue can cause that to happen.

Coppin State came to the Convocation Center at just the right time. Ohio had used its starters for big minutes and the bench was weakened with some injuries and tweaks. Twelve players got onto the court for Ohio in the blowout.

Jason Carter is still out for Ohio, but could begin his comeback soon after the trip to Maryland. Kevin Mickle played five minutes against Indiana State on Nov. 19 before being injured and missed the next two games. Mickle returned against Coppin State for 15 points, five rebounds and three steals off of the bench.

With Mickle back and a multitude of bench players getting time, no player played over 30 minutes for Ohio. Mike Laster played the most at 27 minutes while he scored a game high 18 points.

Coppin State shot 21.3 percent (13-61) as a team from the field and 12 percent (3-25) from beyond the arc. No Eagle player had a double-digit statistic besides minutes played.

The easy game for Ohio could prove to be invaluable down the stretch as Maryland could be a ranked team eventually and they are followed by a home game against Western Kentucky on Sunday and a trip to Marshall on Dec. 16.

The Bobcats will not have a game like Coppin State again so it is time to move on to Maryland.
