buying the hook in hoops has always been looked upon as stupid. there are no key numbers so why do it. after losing okla st last night i decided to look at the rest of my plays this year. my posted record this year is 43-39 but my record on regular plays where i bet 1100-1000 is 37-29 so theese are the games i will consider. of the 66 games bet 34 involve a hook. my record on those games is 20-14. that gives me a profit of 4600. if i had bought the hook at 1200-1000 i would be 20-10-4 at +8000.if i had bought the hook at 1100-915 i would be 20-10-4 at +7300. i do not intend to start buying hooks yet but am going to do some research on my old records going back to 1979. i wish i had kept final scores as part of my records. it seems like i lose by a hook a lot but rarely win by a hook. anyone have any input on this?

I ALWAYS do it, and whoever says its stupid is an idiot. Take the OSU -2 game last nite. Right before gametime it was OSU -2.5.........and if you wouldnt have bought the hook, you would have lost........Ive been saved by buying the hook many, many times..........and I even saw the game at OU +1.5 and if youd bought the hook, youd saved your money.........

After last night's game, you can bet I'm buying the 1/2 pt on favorites for sure. I tend not to buy them on dogs but have no data to support this strategy. If you play 4 or 5 games a night, what's an extra 10 percent juice.
Your research pretty much proves the need to buy the hook.
I may keep track of my favorite plays buying the hook against the dogs not buying the hook for a little while to see if that makes sense.
Good luck but I'm a believer after the fiasco last night. nole

...since, as previously mentioned, there aren't really any "key numbers" in baskets, i would say statistically it would even out over the long run...you're just as likely to fall on the right side of the hook as the wrong side...plus the added juice pushes your breakeven point higher. JMHO

...i'm not saying don't shop for the best line, but over the long haul, i don't think that buying the hook is a great idea...but what do i know. :D
