FORGET BONUS WHORING, there is a reason sites like that will show you where all this FREE money is. Becasue in the long run they will make more off of you than you will get from any stupid bonus. Evertime you sign up at one of those sites through one of thier links to get a bonus they get paid what is called "rakeback" on your play for getting you to sign up.

Rakeback works like this:
For every hand you are dealt cards (even if you fold pre-flop) and there is a rake taken every player gets a percentage of that rake counted towards thier Monthly Gross Revenue. Say the rake is 50 cents that hand, and there is 10 players at the table, each player get 5 cents towards their MGR. At the end of the month the guy you signed up through gets roughly 30% of your MGR, AND EVERY MONTH AFTER THAT FOREVER!

To keep the math easy, say you play 100 raked hands a day, which isn't much, and you play at 50 cent tables with 10 people always there, thats $50 in rake or $5 towards your MGR. You do that every day for a month and have a MGR of $150, the guy you signed up through gets 30% or $45. Keep in mind that is not very many hands and at the minimum level for most sites and does not include if you play in a tournament or ten.

So if you play very little and at the minimum level he's getting $45 a month EVERY month while you got a 25% bonus, that sucks.

You need to be the one getting the rakeback, not the guy you sign up through.

Thanks for the feedback. I get what you are saying. For the most part it was only going to be the big sites, and I wasn't going to go through an intermediate for a bonus. Some sites will offer a straight-up bonus through their main page like a sportsbook.


Regarding rakeback...I understand what it is but how exactly do I going about getting it? Do I have to go through an affiliate site? How do you know which ones are trustworthy...how does site A know my account info at a poker site to know how many raked hands I play in to know what my rakeback is? What is a standard rakeback that's realistic...25%? Any that you have personally used and care to recommend?

saint, you also need to get pokertracker. you can find it at pokertracker.com Sorry mj's if that link isn't allowed. It is a must have tool for any online poker player. It will track all your hands in case you have any problems with an affiliate you can send them a screenshot. You need this before you need anything else. I couldn't even imagine playing without it. It will keep all your poker records for you as well as every other player you play against. The only problem is it only works with bigger sites like stars, party, empire, full tilt, ultimate. Does'nt work with sites like sportsbook. But if you are serious about playing online there isn't a better investment out there. costs like 60 bucks or so (when I bought it it was) not sure about now. But worth every penny 10x.

Yes Saint, you need an affiliate and I can reccomend one that I went through and I know pays every month.

They have very nice tracking software for every player that comes from the poker site itself, the guy I used even lets you have access to the info on a web-site and the info is updated daily.

PokerTracker is a great tool for many reason, this is just one of them.

Here's a good example, the first month I was with this affiliate was actually only the last three weeks of the month and I play 2/4 Omaha Hi/Lo or $25/$50 PL Hi/Lo. I don't think I played a rediculous amount and got $106 rakeback. I konw it's not much, but it beats the hell out of the nothing I was getting and I was going to play either way, so it's like free money.
