i copied and pasted this from another thread in another fourm (obviously an arizona hoops thread), but it reeks of what some of us were discussing on the football thread......good fans vs bad fans....etc...
First, Carolina/Duke and Roy/K.
Lute tried for 2 years to set up a series with K and Duke. K says sure. We'll play 3: one in Durham, one in Phoenix and one at the Meadowlands. Lute says no. After hagglging back-and-forth, the bottom line is K refuses any situation which is just a home-and-home with 2 neutal sites (one east, one west) or one truly neutral site.
So then Roy gets the job at Carolina. A 4 year series, true home-and-home is agreed to in about 2 minutes. No BS. No attempts at getting an advantage. Home-and-home, alternating years. No issues.
There is no question which of those 2 programs I root for when they go head-to-head.
Next, Carolina fans vs. ASu "fans"
Here's what Jerry Brown from the Tribune had in his column today:
What?s going to happen first ? ASu?s basketball team returning to the Top 25, or its student section showing some sliver of class?
There is a humorous, creative way to poke fun at visitors, a way that always manages to elude the budding scholars from Tempe.
He obviously makes this observation based upon the Devil fans' usual garbage from Wednesday night. This time, of course, they chanted "Lute's a douchebag." Previously, it was "Lute's an asshole." And we needn't go into other famous incidents with the lowlife students who populate Fargo Arena.
Contrast with today in Carolina. My friend is back there with our team. We learned from him today that as he walked across campus with Lute this afternoon--after they had been at the Dean Dome with Roy and Dean--Carolina fans who saw Lute honked their horns, stopped and waved and did all they could to show respect and to welcome one of the game's giants to the home of one of the 2 or 3 or 4 most elite programs in the history of college basketball.
Here's another reason I will be rooting for Carolina whenever they play anybody else.
