CBS/AP) Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly has been slapped with a sexual harassment lawsuit by a female employee who claims the conservative talk-show host repeatedly subjected her to sexual harassment through dinner and phone conversations variously described as lewd, lascivious, vile and threatening.

O'Reilly, 55, also filed a lawsuit. It claims the alleged victim of the harassment, Fox associate producer Andrea Mackris, 33, threatened him with the lawsuit in an attempt to extort hush money from the Fox News star.

The Smoking Gun first reported the charges and counter-charges and posted a copy of Makris' lawsuit on its Web site.

Mackris' lawsuit asserts that during a phone conversation this August, O'Reilly suggested she buy a vibrator and was clearly excited. Before hanging up, she said, O'Reilly told her: "I appreciate the fun phone call."

She contended he made a similar call Sept. 21, ending that one by saying: "Next time you'll come up to my hotel room and we'll make this happen."

In his countersuit against Mackris and her attorney, Benedict Morelli, O'Reilly said Morelli demanded $60 million in "hush money" to not file the lawsuit.

"As a public figure, I have received many threats," he said. "But enough is enough ... The threats stop now. I will not give in to extortion."

O'Reilly's lawyer, Ronald Green, said he believes there are tapes of conversations between the two and asked a court to compel Mackris to produce them so they could be played publicly.

"I know that he does not fear what is on the tapes," Green said.

Morelli would not comment on whether any taped phone conversations exist.

Besides the attempt for money, O'Reilly charged that his accuser and her lawyer were trying to embarrass him and Fox News Channel three weeks before the election. Morelli, he said, is a contributor to the Democratic Party; "The O'Reilly Factor" is a particular favorite among Republican viewers.

Morelli said his political contributions had nothing to do with the case.

"When he sued me today, I understood what kind of bully he is," the lawyer said. Mackris sat next to Morelli at a news conference Wednesday, but did not speak and would not answer questions.

A former White House intern in the first Bush administration, Mackris began working for O'Reilly in April 2000. Her complaint said that the first time she noticed odd behavior by O'Reilly came in 2002, when the Fox host allegedly urged her to use a vibrator after her engagement broke off.

Mackris' complaint said she told O'Reilly she was not interested in phone sex and felt "trapped" after his first inappropriate phone call.

Mackris never complained to anyone at Fox about untoward behavior by O'Reilly, Green said. When she returned to Fox earlier this year, O'Reilly agreed to match her salary at CNN, the network said.

Fox produced an e-mail Mackris sent to a friend last month, saying things are "wonderful, amazing, fun, creative, invigorating, secure, well-managed, challenging, interesting fun and surrounded by really good, fun people. I'm home and I'll never leave again."

Mackris said in her lawsuit that she told O'Reilly she would return to Fox only if he stopped the inappropriate behavior.

She said O'Reilly told her: "If any woman ever breathed a word I'll make her pay so dearly that she'll wish she'd never been/ born. I'll rake her through the mud, bring up things in her life and make her so miserable that she'll be destroyed."

On his show Wednesday, O'Reilly called the case "the single most evil thing I have ever experienced, and I've seen a lot. But these people picked the wrong guy."

One of the defendants named in the lawsuit against O'Reilly is Westwood One, which distributes his radio program. Westwood One is managed by Infinity Broadcasting. Infinity Broadcasting and CBS are both owned by Viacom.

I am sure Oreilly probably did some of the things the woman complained about. I heard him on his radio show goofing around with his co-host. I do suspect though it was a plan from the woman to make a huge amount of money from Bill and fox and the radio station. I do admire O'reilly and fox for fighting the lawsuit instead of
of just paying up. I would bet she will lose. Should she have tapes of phone conversations, I would bet things said, could mean anything to the listener. Bill has to be smarter than that.

The thing that will hurt Bill the most, is him talking about how Al Franken will get his in the end and his powerful boss making things happen. It seems Bill and his boss controls or has very high connection all the way to the top of the White House. I wonder if his accuser is a Democrat? Bill is pushing Kerry hard to come on to his show. Kerry can now say, I would never do a show like Bush did, with a sex pervert. Could happen??

Funny how this all hits just when he wants to sell another book.
And never go into a hotel room with one of your female workers unless someone is with you and you leave the door open. As smart as he wants us to think he is all I can say. What a Idiot.

just saw the plaintiff interviewed on Good Morning America. She's cute alright, lol! Long dark brown hair, pouty lips, a fine looking woman.

She and her lawyer claim to have concrete, I assume recorded evidence of the harrassment. I think Fox and O'Reilley have said "let's hear it", but it has not been played as of yet, and the lawyer for her said, "Trust me, you don't want to hear it".

Very interesting indeed. I think it will be hard for her to win because of his fame (same deal as the professional sports guys and people like OJ don't get convicted). She also is not claiming any physical contact, or job termination. However, I guess this is civil, and that's a lot easier to prove.

O'Reilley has also filed a contersuit against this girl and her lawyer.

He spoke briefly about it last night and appeared concerned--will be interesting to see what develops.

Don't think it would hurt his books sales IF quitly DJV.

He might even want to confer with the clintons to how and see how to exploit it ;)

Turbulent Times

By Bill O'Reilly

Another debate in a very turbulent time. That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo."

Just about every famous person I know has been threatened by somebody. Fame makes you a target. It is something that has to be taken very seriously. As I've mentioned before, I've received many threats over the years. Everything from death letters to some guy running around the country offering people $25,000 to sign affidavits accusing me of whatever.

The lawyers here at FOX News have been great in dealing with these situations, but there comes a time when enough's enough. So this morning I had to file a lawsuit against some people who are demanding $60 million or they will "punish" me and FOX News. $60 million dollars.

I really can't say anything else. I don't want to waste your time with this. The justice system has the case. We'll see what happens. But in the end, you should know this is all about hurting me and the FOX News Channel.

It's a shame we have to live in a country where this happens, but got to go through it. All right, that's it. End of story

If she does have a tape as many believe she does. It's over for Bill. This guy has a family that he must answer to before he worries about anyone else. Of course one way to handle is attack as his nature would tell him to do. Like he said I have a big mouth. Maybe that was part of his early admitting. Seems she could be blamed to for edging him on. And I believe that is very possible. But he should know don't play the game. He who is out spoken when it's one of our baseball or football players who make fools out of them selfs. If this is true he's no better then Clinton.
You know there is some smoke here. Or his lawyers would not have been negotiating behind close doors last month.

My goodness Djv you admitted Clinton was somewhat corrupt :)

Have to agree where there is smoke there is usuallt fire fire. Will be curious to see how this pans out. However not sure lawyers were negotiating on money but rather on merits.
Not sure either whether neg results would hurt. I am sure there are many that would be let down thinking he is a morale icon but myself would be more disappointed, if proven quilty, that he lied about it---
If you find anything newsworthy on it post it here as I find this quite interesting.
