With seven home dates and only four away games, but that's the only scheduling break for the Wildcats in Mike Stoops' first year. There's an unfortunate miss from the Pac 10, Stanford, while UA plays eight bowl teams, Washington and Arizona State. The non-conference slate won't be fun.

The Sun Devils will try and bounce back from a disappointing season with a schedule that's nasty early, but lightens up. If they can avenge last year's lifeless loss to Iowa, they should be on their way to a bowl season. Getting Stanford and Arizona in the last three games helps. USC is the only killer road game..

Four road games in the first five could be devastating for Cal's hopes for a big season, but the second half eases up four of the last six games in Berkeley to go along with a road date at Arizona. Getting an angry USC team looking for revenge after going to Southern Miss and Oregon State won't be fun.

The Ducks have no excuse for not having a big year missing USC and getting a cupcake non-conference schedule. If this is a good team. Oregon shouldn't shoot for anything less than a 6-2, or 7-1 start. Fortunately, there isn't an extended road swing and the middle of the slate is nice and cushy.

OSU certainly isn't taking it easy this year with three nasty non-conference games before going on the road to face Arizona State. Life doesn't ease up with USC and Washington State coming to Corvallis. At least the road games, outside of LSU. aren't horrible thanks to Arizona and Stanford.

This could be brutal for the Cardinal with five of the last seven games on the road and USC and Washington coming to Palo Alto. Missing Arizona hurts any hopes of a winning record. Winning the first two games is an absolute must since the Cardinal should be the underdog the rest of the way.

No offense to Virginia Tech or any of the Pac 10 teams, but this schedule is way too light for a team as good as USC. There's no Oregon while Washington comes to LA. Be careful of Arizona State, Oregon State and Washington State, but a national-title team should be able to handle those two road tests.

This schedule will be tougher than in it looks on paper, but a good team should be able to come up with seven wins without trouble. The toughest early game, Oklahoma State, is in L.A., while the Bruins get three weeks to rest up and prepare for USC at the end of the year showdown. At Cal and at ASU will be major midseason tests..

The road slate is one of the Pac 10's toughest with games at USC, Oregon and Washington State to go along with the trip to South Bend. Getting at Stanford and San Jose State in the middle of the year should be a nice rest. The final three away dates might be against the Pac 10's three best teams (USC, Oregon and Washington State.)

Thanks to the Pac 10 opener at Arizona followed up by home games against Oregon and Stanford, The Cougars can't demand anything less than a perfect 6-0 start going into a brutal finishing kick. Missing Cal is nice, but not enough of a break to ease up the race for a Pac 10 title. The season opener at New Mexico could be tougher than expected.

Still really like Oregon's chances although @WSU and OSU should be tough games. How ironic would it be if for the 2nd year in a row USC doesn't get into the BCS title game because of its SOS which Scott goes on and on and on and on about...

I like USC to take it the distance too. However, the beginning of the year could be troublesome. USC might be without 4 starting OL from last year (if Winston Justice is suspended). Playing V-Tech to open the season is not good for breaking in an inexperienced yet talented OL.

You got a pretty cool avatar Cohanick.

Quick thoughts

Quick thoughts

AZ
Stoops should have huge positive impact. Talent is already there. Really rough schedule, should prepare Wildcats & Stoops for his 2nd season -- That's when I expect to see the wins start to come.

ASU
Hard to call! If their early Big 10 roadie goes bad, then Iowa thru Cal games all loseable for the Devils. Possible upset going into SC w a bye week, off a likely loss @ Oregon. Trojans will be off revenge game v Cal the previous week. Just thinking ahead.

Cal
Look for Cal to again be explosive on Off. If they cant start at least 3-3, they may struggle to go bowling w late season matchups v Oregon & @ UW.

Oregon
Soft non-conf schedule wont prepare them well for Pac 10 play. I think their toughest roadie will be @ WSU. Sandwiched between home games v the AZ schools & WSU wont be distracted by upcoming Stanford game.

OSU
Tough schedule & no Davis at RB. Make or break game is v Cal in my opinion. Could be looking at 0-2 in conf w the WA schools on deck. Brutal schedule when you think that come 10/30 @ AZ, Stoops will probably be looking for his 1st conf win. Why not a deflated Beaver squad?

Stanford
I feel sorry for Stanford. May be looking at a 1 or 2 win season. Teevens hasnt worked out well for the Cardinal.

USC
Talent & coaching! I can only list possible upset spots for the Trojans. Va Tech in season opener only because its the season opener. Cal because they should be able to score w SC, ASU may have a slight schedule advantage. WSU & OSU only because they are road games & UCLA only because anything can happen in a rivalry game. That said, I think they can run the table w their schedule.

UCLA
Expect improvement from the Bruins in Dorrell's 2nd yr, but they have to go 3-0 non-conf to have a chance to go bowling. That makes their make or break game v Ok St. If the Bruins cant score v the Cowboys, they will find the going rough on the road in conf (@ UW, Cal, ASU & Oregon) v teams that can score.

WSU
Cougars should remain among conf elite. A shot to be 7-0 when USC comes calling, that makes their toughest road game, in my opinion, @ UCLA. Win or lose, look for an emotional let down v the Bruins that next game.

UW
Can see my boys winning 2 road games. Either Notre Dame or WSU, to go w Stanford. No worse than 4-2 at home, should get us an invite to the Las Vegas Bowl!

ps Scott, I think Cohanick meant the Gamecocks, not the Trojans!
