sorry, i mean Fiesta Bowl

let me start out by saying that i'm on tilt right now. if anyone was watching gulfstream park a few minutes ago... i had that 6 horse flying at the end to get into the dead heat at 14-1. i'm on tilt because if he stuck a nose in front, i would have won about $1,500 more.

although i was almost REALLY on tilt... because i also had him on my pick 6 ticket along with the 35-1 shot that won the first leg. but i only had the winner of the 5th leg on a different ticket. so with some different ticket construction, that dead heat would have cost me thousands more.

ok, i'm done whining about just missing a huge payout. time to move on to football. the reason why we're all here tonight.

anyone who has read any of my college football posts the last two years probably knows who i'm taking tonight.

kansas state (+8) 2 units. i'll try to keep it as brief as possible, because it's mostly the same stuff i've been saying about k st for 2 years. primarily - this team continues to be undervalued by the linesmakers and the public. they have gone 18-5-1 ATS over the last 2 years. that includes a 9-2 record STRAIGHT UP as an underdog. apparently both the computers and the bettors don't believe this team is for real.

i absolutely trust coach snyder to have this team ready to play.

i haven't watched oregon play much this year, but i don't think their offense is all that different from what k st has faced all year in the big 12. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

oregon thrives on forcing turnovers, much like florida. they forced 38 TO's which tied for the most in the country. but much like louisville, k st doesn't turn the ball over. only one team turned the ball over less this season than k st.

k st has the type of offense that can grind out long possessions. that is the best way to slow down an offense like oregon's that likes to keep coming at you. the less they are on the field. the less rhythm they can build.

mariota is a freshman qb. this is really his first game on a really big stage. who knows how he'll handle it?

under (73.5) 1 unit. hard to believe this line has dropped. that tells me we're going to see less scoring than most people expect.

hey, whatever we lose tonight we can get back on oklahoma tomorrow night. :toast:

thanks, rm. i wish i was getting 14-1 on k st. :)

i'm trying to look on the bright side. usually when i have that 14-1 shot closing like a freight train to close out a nice pick 4, he doesn't quite get there. in fact, when they first showed the replay, i would have sworn he was an inch short.

ore offense is COMPLETELY different than every big-12 offense k-st faced this year in that ore RUNS the ball much more than most believe (320+ yds per game) and passes the ball much LESS than most people believe.

they also run their offense at a ridiculiously fast pace...84 plays per game which is 6th in the country and again, most are runs......and they've blown so many people away they've slowed their pace in almost every 2nd half.

they way to beat ore is with a BIG run stuffing d-lineman that are usually found in the sec as they feast on smaller dlines

I used to go to the racetrack weekly w/ my pop and grandpa. I know what that feels like when you heart is pounding down the stretch w/ that type of pay-out.:scared

those are two excellent points. i just checked the numbers. i knew they were run-first, but i didn't realize how large the discrepancy was. i tried to find a few teams in the big 12 with similar numbers. and the largest discrepancy i found? k st. they only threw the balll 282 times all year (vs 489 rushing attempts).

i don't think we're going to see the ball in the air very much tonight.

i kept hearing ore was alot like baylor which is like saying the broncos with manning are alot like the broncos with tebow

complete opposites

although maybe people were referring to each school's traditional colors (green and yellow)
