The man that programmed the Partypoker software and largest shareholder in PartyGaming Anurag Dikshit agreed to a plea deal with the DoJ because his creation violated the MOTHER FUCKING 1961 WIRE ACT. The Dikshit will pay $300M to the USA, then The Dikshit is pretty much allowed to go free. My thoughts on the subject as they come to me: 1) How stupid is the Dikshit for not getting out of the USA, peace to 'ya, and set up shop ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD WHERE THIS TYPE OF SHIT IS LEGAL. A.K.A. MALTA. 2) What kind of a jack move is this when the USA takes 3x $100M installments from The Dikshit and he has to "limit his travel to his native India, The European Union, and New York" Ok so pretty much anywhere he ever goes he's allowed to go, after we get the $300M. 3) Go back and read the part where an almost 50 year old law just stole $300M from a trail-blazing businessmen in a fast growing industry that generates billions of dollars per year from millions of American customers. Tax / Regulate / End the years of denial.

Been saying that for years! They legalized poker machines in South Carolina in the early 90s and all winners hit a button that printed receipt that you took to the counter and the state took 25% right off the top in taxes on the wins. Did thid stop people from plying, hell no, they were lined up at machines for that "chance" of winning. When you go to horse/dog tracks, you pay taxes on any winning tickets over $600. Does that stop people from betting?

Why hasn't our government found any way to tax on any winnings when you request a payout from the poker sites? Do you think that will stop people from playing? Hell no, it will increase the amount of players because it will make accessibility of depositing much easier thus creating more money in taxes on the back end when winning players cash out.

I know people are going to say that is why all these sites create offshore and out of US jurisdiction. But wouldnt you feel better if your money was staying right here in the US and being regulated by US laws?

All I can say about this is the owner of PokerStars better never come into this USA. Dikshits actually cut off the US customers before they gambling law went into effect last year, seems to me he did follow what they wanted at the time.

Also how they Hell are all these Pro Poker Players that are part owners in these companies, not get fined anything, that live right here in the good ole USA.

I was told long ago that Sexton was part of partyoker, and then you have Doyle Brunson, as that whole crew that works w/UB, it just doesn't make any sense.

the government is doing its job to keep people who are sick from losing all their money, I say tax it and regulate it like the state lottery

poker stars is 75% owned by an israeli family and 25% owned by the employees. it's a 3 billion a year enterprise.

tax the company, not the players. or leave it the way it is.

as for full tilt, the company has a base in ireland and is still probably licensed up in canada if not in ireland. they can't go after the pros that run it because they have a "legitimate" business interest in the eye of the hosting country and are following their laws. in theory they are paying taxes there. if you were to set up a meat packing plant in brazil from here, you would be held to brazilian standards, not us.

i agree with making it legal/ hence taxing bringing in more players, but you will lose the majority of your high volume players and the company would make maybe 1/5th of what they are making now. pokerstars could care less that the us makes it legal and would prefer for them not to as well as me.

BleedDodgerBlue,

If you won A LOT of money from one of these sites, such as poker stars, what would you do?

Wouldn't you have to pay taxes on it here in order to get the money?

Let's say we are talking $100k. At some point that money has to go through your bank, right?

So wouldn't you have to pay taxes on it, legal or not?

I am just wondering what your strategy would be.

Last year I made A LOT from one of these sites, and my accountant told me, legal or not, the money will show up, and he advised me to just pay the taxes on my return and put it under gambling winnings.

you'd think that with all that money he has he would spend a little of it to legally change his name..:142smilie
