Churchill's all time leading rider and one of the great riders in racing is mired in a bad slump. 22 straight losses but more significantly 12 of the 22 losses were favorites. He reportedly had back spasms and took off his mounts in the two days prior to the Derby but you have to wonder if he's 100%. Until proven otherwise, you have to toss him at low odds now.

Before I was married and had a son(8),I would go to Oaklawn park every race day.Pat Day was the leading rider there for several year's.Although he was the leading rider,he was notorious for running fav's up the track. He literally rode EVERY race and anything he was on was bet down................Most people I know were elated when he left here,as he really was to much of a factor in any race and thus made handicaping double tough.I had a day when I was on him in every race, and he won 8 races that day, there was also a time when he went over a month without a winner. He is one of the best all-time,but I'm glad he's not a regular rider here anymore.

Michael, I'm from Arkansas and am an Oaklawn fan...

I hear ya..

I personally don't think the guy is as good as most think he is, but I'm sure a lot of people would argue that....

Pat Day has his own Murphy's Law...."can't bet on him and can't bet against him..."

He puts in bad rides on horses that should win and wins on horses like Commendable in the Belmot and Cat Thief in the BC Classic..

(wooooo pig!)

I spent about 2 months in Hot Springs back in 1986 before I had to hit the working world. Day set the OP record for wins, and I agree that bettors were glad to see him go because he had such a factor on the odds it was amazing. He still does in Kentucky, but I don't think it was as much as at Oaklawn in the 80s and 90s.
