Upon clicking on the enclosed link to PayPal, it took me to what seemed to be PayPal's website. But after entering my ID and password, I was prompted with the following:

I hope you didnt put in the info that was requested. NEVER click on the link and put in personnal info. I had read somewhere that this is a scam to get your cc #. They make the site look legit and you will end up getting screwed. If you get these e-mails log on to your acount like you normally would (NOT thru the link) and check to see if a unauthorized e-mail account has been added.
If you did give the info out I would put a stop on the card immediatley.

Not legit. See copy and paste from Paypal's site.

Email Security

Look for a PayPal Greeting: PayPal will never send an email with the greeting "Dear PayPal User" or "Dear PayPal Member." Real PayPal emails will address you by your first and last name or the business name associated with your PayPal account. If you believe you have received a fraudulent email, please forward the entire email?including the header information?to spoof@paypal.com. We investigate every spoof reported. Please note that the automatic response you get from us may not address you by name.
Don't share personal information via email: We will never ask you to enter your password or financial information in an email or send such information in an email. You should only share information about your account once you have logged in to https://www.paypal.com/.
Don't download attachments: PayPal will never send you an attachment or software update to install on your computer.

Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Emails

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At PayPal, protecting your account's security is our top priority. Recently, PayPal members have reported suspicious-looking emails and fake websites. These emails are not from PayPal and responding to them may put your account at risk. Please protect your PayPal account by paying close attention to the emails you receive and the websites you visit.

Please use the following tips to stay safe with PayPal:

Safe Log In: To log in to your PayPal account or access the PayPal website, open a new web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer or Netscape) and type in the following: https://www.paypal.com
Greeting: Emails from PayPal will address you by your first and last name or the business name associated with your PayPal account. Fraudulent emails often include the salutation "Dear PayPal User" or "Dear PayPal Member".
Email Attachments: PayPal emails will never ask you to download an attachment or a software program. Attachments contained in fraudulent emails often contain viruses that may harm your computer or compromise your PayPal account.
Request for Personal Information: If we require information from you, we will notify you in an email and request that you enter the information only after you have safely and securely logged in to your PayPal account.

Often, fraudulent emails will request details such as your full name, account password, credit card number, bank account, PIN number, Social Security Number, or mother's maiden name.
If you think that you have received a fraudulent email (or fake website), please forward the email (or URL address) to spoof@paypal.com and then delete the email from your mailbox. Never click any links or attachments in a suspicious email.

To learn more about protecting your PayPal account, please review our Security Tips.

Thanks, bubba and dave.

I did not enter in my credit card info as that looked way too suspicious. I went into my paypal account, disabled my registered credit card, and changed my paypal password.

I received two in the last 12 hours that advised me that PayPal was requiring all users to provide them with the information of an additional debit/check card. The explanation (which contained two misspellings) was that this is required by the US Federal Government under the Homeland Security Act as proof of identification.

The interesting thing is that I don't have a PayPal account! I deleted them from my spam filter before I saw this post so I can't forward them to the spoof@paypal.com but I'm sure I'll receive more. They are rampant!

http://contactpaypal.homestead.com/ (actual number to paypal you can call - not listed on their website because their cs bites.)

I hate paypal. It's almost a necessity, however, if you use ebay, but I certainly NEVER would register a bank account with them. Too much of this hoax emailing goes on. Somebody is deeply ingrained into their system that shouldn't be, and it has been hacked several times. Be careful with them.
