As a UT fan, I will be laying the points heavy with Va Tech on NY Eve. These two teams, both offensively and defensively, mirror each other almost exactly. The Vols throw it a little better, Tech runs it a little better. Both teams took Bama down to the wire and both are playing pretty good ball towards the end of the season.
Two reasons I like Va Tech in this matchup
1 - Special Teams - Yeah, I know, Beamer always wins on special teams, but wait, you don't understand, the Vols are AWFUL on special teams. Two days ago at practice, they went through 3 kickers who couldn't make an extra point without getting it blocked. YES AN EXTRA POINT - not a FG, an extra fuckin point! Their kickoff coverage has also been awful all year - all we heard is how good of a special teams coach this Eddie Gran was, and I thought he was awful all year. Thank you Florida State for taking this guy off our hands!! We have a real special teams coach, and a real kicker coming in next year. I see at least two big plays going in VT's favor on special teams and when you have two pretty good defenses on the field, special teams is HUGE.
2 - Tyrod Taylor - I know, may sound crazy - but the Vols have struggled against mobile QBs and guys that can make plays, esp from the wildcat formation. Now, I know he is not considered to be in the "wildcat", but the issue remains whether they can defend it against either him or Williams.
If the line gets to 7, which I don't think it will, I will think more, but give me the Hokies with less than a TD and know that I bet with head more than heart.
